Hello everyone, I've been a long time reader but this is my first post. Great forum and excellent to browse through.

I've read several threads on Qantas loyality. Let me first state I'm loyal to Qantas, all my international travel is with Qantas and my domestic is a mix of Jetstar+ and Qantas. I've read with interest that the figure of 28,000 staus points may cause something magical to happen?? I currently have approximately 22,000 status points and on average get between 3500 - 4000 points per year. This means I'm only a couple of years away from the 28,000 total. I fail to really see what Qantas can do. Lifetime Platinum would be disasterous for Qantas, I mean why would they give this away, there would then be no incentive to fly Qantas. I suppose the only real thing of value would be to offer CL membership and I can't see them doing that either.

Platinum One has actually been a bit of let down, the service from the dedicated line has been good, however everything else is just like it was as a platinum flyer. Is there any actual evidence of something happening at this mystical figure of 28,000 status points? Or is it all just done to provoke loyality?

I've no intention to change my flying habits or that of our business. I like Qantas as a brand and my 25 odd visits to the First lounge in Melbourne every year are actually enjoyable (the First lounges are in my opinion the best around). I'm just really intrigued as to what happens when I reach the 28,000 status points milestone, or will I be writing my second post in 5 years time asking about the 42,000 status points threshold!!

Just remember you're the reason they fly, and thats hardly an original tag line:

Would you change your travel profile if you had LTP? Really?

I dont think the risk for QF of LTP is that high - the numbers of people with 28,000 QF SCs must be very small and if it existed and you were trying to achieve it then it wold generate a lot of QF travel and profit.

It is only a rumour that LTP exists at 28,000 QF SCs as well. Looking forward to your report back in two years :)

My father has 32,000+ when I saw his statement from QF that was sent a few weeks back... I'm sure by now he would have passed 28,000 on QF specifically.. As he has really only ever flown domestic Aus and to LAX and DFW... Nothing has changed for him...

Although hopefully one day while he is still flying... It will... ;)

Ducatiman, your thoughts on Platinum One are similar to pretty much every other P1 member. The SST is great but the rest of the offering simply does not exist.

From the actions of Qantas - it's apparent they have the goal to keep customers at their peak tier for 3-5 years. That being the average lifespan of a status member. After that there's no category to slot into - spend isn't high enough to warrant CL, yet not low enough for QF to incentivize to spend more. You're in the QF sweet spot - a loyal customer that needs no encouragement.

Change your travel/CC habits and QF won't care - because you (were) already higher value than the average customer.
Increase travel/spend with QF and they won't care - because you're not in CL category.

Basically, QF knows you're trapped.
This is why most people simply start flying other airlines, that actually want your business.

That is a good question. What does drive loyalty? Almost exactly year ago I hit LTG and mused about my future travel plans. I had read up on AFF about those that took the LTG status and then went over to AA. I was awaiting the announcement of Platinum One so continued with QF. (Being lazy, fearful of change, and generally failing to fully understand how I'd make AA work for me were probably the main drivers!! [The latter can be placed squarely under the "Tony Hancock is stupid" category!!])

Joyce's decision to use passengers in his fight with the unions did change my plans. I took up the VA/DJ status match and have retained platinum and will have collected 1500 SC's with DJ/VA by the end of August. I switched the vast majority of my domestic travel away from QF, and have really enjoyed domestic travel again.

Whilst P1 has been a bit of a disappointment I have stuck with QF because I know what to expect on my long haul travel. What lounges I can enter, how other Oneworld airlines will treat my Emerald status. Despite my love of being a DYKWIA :p it is certainty that is important for me. VA/DJ cannot deliver that to me on the main international routes I travel. (I have an EY J flight back from the UK shortly and the whole seat selection, lounge entry thing is mildly confusing to me.)

At the moment I am getting the most out of flying QF, as a P1 I have had a couple of op-ups to F, I do seem to get a spare seat next to me, even in longhaul J, and have enjoyed the delight of a domestic red-e-deal flight being changed to an earlier one. I can effectively use the points on earn by booking FASA's and JASA's. My international travel experiences over the last few months have been the best I have experienced to date.

I do not feel any loyalty to QF. At the moment they are simply offering a better yearly international travel experience for me. If VA fix up their international side I may very well switch to them.

A year into my LTG I now have 19000 SC's, but my travel is likely to slow down a little. A drop to WP is not something I'm looking forward to, but could well happen in 2015 or 2016. With the double SC offers the J lounges are beginning to fill up and the benefits diluted. MrsH will re-qualify WP two months before me, and with only one return J trip to the UK, a JASA to BNE, followed by a return flexi saver. I can only hope that the talk of PCV is right. Surely QF has some way to distinguish between the newly minted double SC WP's and the higher earning WP's. (Obviously QF would have to look after MrsH!!!!:p)

I sound selfish, and guess I am when it comes to travel.

As a footnote my favourite moment with QF this year was when a CSM came to see me on a domestic flight, I was in Y, to make sure I had been fed (catering not assured on the BP) and to see if there was anything I wanted. She addressed me by name, without reading the passenger manifest, appeared quite genuine in her concern for my welfare, and made me feel like I mattered as a customer. This act cost QF nothing and took less than a minute of the CSM's time........... but it did make me book my next domestic flight with QF.
