I would rather use the points for a JASA, better value and no lottery!

Of course! but sometimes some of us are on paid fors with work or even self funded travel for example so this will be a handy feature to have.

I am now starting to consider for my trip to AKL. At the moment I have 4A both ways... should I or shouldn't I mmmmmm

That's where I'm at too. (My next upgradeable flight with QF is in October SIN-MEL I'm in J though.) I think the SC's and points earned with JASA's or FASA's makes them much better value than points upgrades.

I'm soon going to run out of points though...where is the midweek Everyday Rewards offer this week? :p

Yep, regardless of how you paid for the fare! Sydney Bangkok is 40000 points from discount Y to J (which is realistically the only upgrade now on offer) while a JASA can be had for 60000 !

I agree JASA's can be great value and the best way to spend points (& get SC and Points) but if you have to take a specific flight such as I do...SYD- DFW and your company has booked you in discount Y, I see 80,000 points as being a worthwhile spend for me...the available JASA's on SYD- DFW route are showing at 1,216,930 points for a one way JASA in August.

Received the same offer for a Melbourne to Singapore flight, now weighing up whether I go for premium or the whole hog to business. I've heard getting a business upgrade on the A380 is difficult.

I didn't get any email but it allows me to request upgrades.

Booking class O [fly round the world for $2.7K]
SYD - LAX 90,000 to Y+ 144,000 to J
SYD - BKK 80,000 to J

Booking Class N
SYD - BKK 40,000 to J

N seems ok but O is hmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm. I'll save points for JASA rather than upgrading O but might request for N.

I've got a flight back from LA to Syd witn family in Oct in "O" class and have been checking website daily since Feb when i booked ticket but didnt have enough points to upgrade all family (now, i do!). They did allow upgrades for "O" in Feb and March and then silence til today when i saw this thread and checked from the QP. Lo and behold the upgrade was available. Hope i now get it!! Thanks guys for the heads up!!!

I'm wondering the same. Mrs MatF and I are 4A/B both ways for SYD-CHC-SYD. What's J like on the Jetconnect aircraft??

Fair enough if you think using 80000 points is a worthwhile upgrade for a work trip, but when you factor in a seat BNE- DFW can be had for 96000 points and $600 with a little planning which most people do for private holidays, that upgrade is costing you a trip to DFW for a vacation that would earn 240 SCs one way for a net difference of $600 and -6715 points (total points cost is 73285 points) after points earn ( plus the expense of getting to BNE).

those deals are good if far out enough etc, but its usually a weekday in my experience and weekends are super rare but if you can snag it, its totally worth it IMHO.

Also got the email, put in a request to upgrade from Q to J for DFW to SYD on Sunday, and failing that Premium Economy. Not sure of my chances but have plenty of points courtesy of recent work trips, of which this is one....and having done Y for most of these trips it would be nice to be up front! Fingers crossed!

I get your point but having to stretch this out to June 2013 is a bridge too far for me...checked the JASA,s from BNE in August and they are 1.2m + in points BNE - SYD - DFW

The bottom line here is that JASA's are great if you are very flexible with dates.

Well, bugger me with a duck, I didn't get the email - probably because I neglected to spot the fact that the flights had to be in August. We're not flying till Sept :(

A moo point for us!

Bummer. I haven't had experience with this sort of promotion before, so will be interesting to see who actually gets upgraded? I'm on a heavily discounted fare (and am just shy of Gold status) so I suspect I'm well down the list of upgrade requests, especially 5 days out from the flight. But surely they wouldn't have emailed in the first place if it wasn't worth bothering? Expert flyer isn't showing any J award seats available on 29 July DFW-SYD, but is showing 9 J seats available...so who knows?

Also got the offer for my BNE-SYD-DFW-BNE trip next week (noticed a few of us headed that way - we depart in the afternoon on 1 August)

As I brought all 7 tickets at a very heavy discount ($1300 return) - I don't think I can justify splitting the PRN and dropping some people off while I go to Y+ or J.

But if anyone else is at the back of the plane in the 2 seat sides please feel free to take the upgrade - would love more room down there!!!

I received the offer for my O booking on Zuji for SYD-JNB. I've submitted a request at 56,000 points. Hey, you regret 100% of the things you don't do...

I received this offer last year after the industrial action and upgraded a discount economy fare to HKG to J, both ways. I was Bronze at the time.
