Blackout at Melbourne Airport
More fun and games at the third world airport that is MEL T2 and T3
Melbourne Airport has been hit by a power outage, which is affecting airport operations.
On its Twitter feed the airport said: "Major power outage has affected airport operations. Under investigation and will endeavour to rectify services ASAP."
Comment is being sought from Melbourne Airport and Customs Australia. It is believed the power outage is affecting Customs operations and is believed to have sent three of the four terminals at the site into darkness.
But Qantas said its passengers were not affected.
''From a Qantas perspective it's not impacting our services at this stage. We've got back-up power so that's allowing us to continue our operations,'' a Qantas spokeswoman said.
The outage meant the state government postponed an announcement at Tullamarine today.
Melbourne Airport's website appears to have crashed this morning as people seek out information about what is happening.
Transport Minister Terry Mulder was scheduled to open a new drive-on ramp at the airport's long-term car park at 10.30am, but a spokeswoman said the event had been delayed.
