Thanks, good to hear that this is not off! Cannot wait for that new terminal building- counting the days!

I might be alone here, but I'm not a huge fan of the lack of "ceiling" on the current First lounge in HKG leading to a lot of background noise from the boarding lounges below etc. The Business lounge in HKG has a much more cosy feel to it IMHO. Perhaps the First refurb will increase the cosiness factor (although still no ceiling... ;)).

Just exactly how many QF flights have F from HKG each day? 1?

Yes, I know WP's can use it too...

Seems odd, if they're going down that route then perhaps BNE could do with an upgrade (and one F flight).

I think this refurb speaks more about future strategies, and I'm not talking JQ HK, as there's no loyalty for those pax. If they're focusing on premium pax and a premium lounge there must be more planned, to better utilise the space. Otherwise it really is a waste of money.

Wonder how CX will feel about an F experience to rival what they're doing in the Wing. A dining hall for any OWE pax might give CX a run for their money if the F&B is up to scratch.

CX will have enough trouble accommodating all of their pax (I'm sure they're not in the business of shrinkage). If QF put up even something comparable at least there will be a viable alternative. Besides, for QF/BA it will be closer to their gates (sort of :-|).

Also, if you can't get a cabana in the CX F Wing (the old one, no idea about the new one), the CX F Wing shower rooms are rather small (like the old QF/BA F lounge showers). The CX F Pier shower rooms are bigger (not as big as the cabanas), but if your gate is situated at the "neck" or nearest to the main part of the terminal, that's a long way to go.

I believe the oneworld lounge will basically stay put, simply expanding on the 5th floor to take in the area of the adjacent *A lounge to the South and expanding somewhat outwards with the new Bradley West:

serfty interesting. had not seen that.
Assume that will mean the onworld lounge will be a staged construction, unlike Star who will be able to move straight into a new space.

Stage 1. New part in the Great Hall constructed, at same time as Star lounge.
Stage 2. New Star lounge opens and Star moves out. Partial oneworld lounge opening in Great Hall connected back to current lounge
Stage 3. Renovation of the former Star space (Great Hall space and current space remains open)
Stage 4. Open former Star space and close current space for renovation
Stage 5. Finally a brand new lounge.

Funnily enough I had to have a close look at the maps to realise the current TBIT oneworld business lounge is ~50% bigger than the first lounge - I have never actually been in the business side ...

Serfty - haven't even glanced left as you head through the security door on your way to the showers? :D

Never had a shower there. I've always managed one at the T4 FL before heading across.;)

Posted on a wing and a prayer ...

Are the F/L showers any different than the TBIT shared J/F lounge showers? A lot quieter I'm guessing...

Ausbt got another lead from AFF. It's funny how a news thread or tip is posted on AFF and it appears within days on Ausbt, I have no issues with Ausbt posted these stories/tips, but they should give credit to AFF...

Sneak peak: is this the new Qantas First Lounge at Hong Kong? - Flights | hotels | frequent flyer | business class - Australian Business Traveller

Actually they gave credit to FlymeFunky, who broke the story... and, for the record, they asked for permission prior to writing their story (which some may say highlights AusBT's editorial integrity)

Hi Everyone

UPDATE:

Ausbt.com.au has sought comment from Qantas and they have advised that these aren't the plans of the HK lounge... sorry to get everyone whipped up into a frenzy!

According to Qantas, these realistic images are not the shape of the new Qantas First Lounge at Hong Kong.
"They are not the (HK First Lounge) designs, they are incorrect" a spokesperson tells Australian Business Traveller.

I'd think it's appropriate that the moderators of AFF get in touch with ABT. I think the coincidence with this and other stories is too great to be ignored.

Certainly fair enough but I would think it appropriate that if ABT came across the story here first (courtesy of your post) then AFF should also be referenced.

Hmmm ... those images certainly mimic the shape and area of the current first lounge.

If these aren't the correct plans, someone has certainly gone to a lot of trouble to draw some pretty decent looking designs.

On further thought, even if the design does not adhere to the existing shape of the lounge, the colour scheme and furnishings could still be correct, although I note Qantas's correction also denies this.

Information published in a public forum always moves about a lot.

Best bet is to ignore the obviousness of it.

As for QF denying the images are accurate, perhaps that's more to do with the renderings being an early mockup. What they are building now could be vastly different, at least in terms of layout. There's also the whole 'you're wrong' attitude perhaps being a silly smokescreen.
