Would you say bye to SWMBO or HWMBO for an upgrade?

I recently transferred (read raided) all my husband’s FF points to add to mine. He doesn’t like to accumulate too many points; he prefers to spend them as we earn them. This transfer gave me just over the amount needed for a J return on CX from PER -> HKG. There were very few seats available over the September/October school holiday period in either J or Y. And not 2 Y seats on the same flights for any of the dates that suited us. I have a distinct preference for using my (our) points for J travel. So I booked J for me using FF points and have paid for him to travel in Y on the same flights.

I don’t fly well although I really enjoy it, so he wants me to have J seats whenever possible. He is happy enough to sit in Y. I do the planning, booking and paying for all our travels, so that seems fair to me.

PS. I am a little broader in the beam than he is, so I really enjoy the extra width in J.

I think if my partner raided my points it would all end in tears. I think there would be less pain if she were to simply raid my bank account and purchase flights to accumulate the points.

Absolutely.

Perhaps I have been single for too long but I would not want to be with a person who wants to have total control.

If either person receives an upgrade then this should be seen as a good thing. And anyway even if I did receive the upgrade I would more than likely give it to SWIWNO after getting the formalities out of the way.

Once I was travelling from New York to Stockholm (EWR-ARN) on Scandinavian Airlines in Y class. I was SAS Star Gold at the time.

A friend of mine who was a SAS employee happened to be in New York and was travelling on an employee fare in Y class (EWR-CPH-ARN) on the same day. I suggested we check-in together and see if they'd put him on the non-stop (EWR-ARN).

At check-in, I was allocated a business class seat but with economy class service (they were operating a J cabin as Y) and he was given a seat back in regular Y (but they changed him to be on the non-stop). He was happy! I then guested him into the lounge (he had no access) and asked the staff there if it might be possible for us to be seated together (in the J cabin with Y service). The lounge attendant happily took both our boarding passes and thought it would be possible. At boarding call we went to the attendant. He proclaimed: "It's your lucky day!!". Well ...maybe. My friend (the SAS employee) got upgraded to full business and I got to stay in my original seat.

He enjoyed it. I felt a bit miffed that the upgrade did not go to a fare paying, gold status passenger (= me). And I had done all the requests!

But in the end it's how things sometimes work out.

Bottom line: I got an airline employee upgraded!

SWIWNO She who I want nookie off?

If I pay for the travel I take the upgrade. If you're travelling with me then you're paying for yourself and can take your upgrade not mine.

Just so I don’t look like a complete monster, most of our FF points are from a joint credit card. The points are automatically credited to Mr. sinophile888’s FF account. So I am only 50% heartless. He has no idea how to book flights, especially award flights, nor is he interested in working it out.

It was his idea that I fly J and he flies Y. He doesn’t mind Y as long as he has an aisle seat.

With the flight availability when we wanted to fly, there was only one FF option and it was in J. Better for one FF flight and 1 paid fare than 2 paid fares. Mr. sinophile888 well remembers the Ansett situation and encourages me to use our FF points as soon as we accumulate enough to get a J booking.

Well you are from Perth too so you get quite a bit of leeway from me.
i could try the after life by trying Mrscove in a lower class. We really need to get rid of that stay sharp knife.

I have no issues leaving the GF at the back if I was upgraded, neither would my GF have issues with leaving me at the back should she get upgraded. An upgrade is worth "something" and who has ever knocked back a benefit.

Always take the updgrade. Often I'm travelling for business in J and teh wife and kids have been along for a holiday in Y. On long haul we aften share the seat for some shut eye and respite from the kids. On short haul swapping boarding passes can make it "fair" in the long run.
