How many of you good people switched onto following:

1. Hey Tell - free instant audio messaging via Wi-Fi or 3G - if you hate typing SMS as I do this is for you.

2. Viber - free phone calls mobile to mobile - international and national - Wi-Fi and 3G - great clarity.

3. Tango - free video and audio mobile to mobile - better than Face Time as can use 3G also.

I think all 3 available on Android also.

A friend from work uses it too.. might have to give it a shot..

the other app I use a bit more these days is Ping chat.

I was in Shanghai last week and used Viber all week back to Oz brilliant.

I only have iPhone 3 so could not use Tango but is big in China - also appears to work brilliantly.

I love Hey Tell - SMS is dead.

Hey Tell seems pretty cool.
I have stuck to Skype. But Microsoft should be scared now.

I hate paying for Apps - but I got 24 neices and nephews - I am forever trying the free Apps they come across - best part of iPhone Apps is the FREE part - download - try - like - keep - dislike - discard.

Now if only girlfriends / boyfriends (depending on your gender) were like that life would be perfect huh?

I still think Hey Tell is just the best thing since sliced bread - ease of use fabulous.

Tango sounds interesting if it can work reliably over 3G - shame it is iPhone only rather than iPad - but I have huge trouble with Facetime iPad to home computer :(
I have iPhone3 so I don't have cam so I don't use Tango yey - I saw one of our Chiese manufacturers using it last week in Shanghai - his wife and baby were in Tianijin - audio and video were perfect over 3G - when I save my pocket money and eventually upgrade will be first App I download.

I was also against buying apps, and went as far to jailbreak my phone to get 'free' ones. But then I started making apps myself and realised how much time/effort goes into development that now I feel bad if I DONT pay for an app.

Almost reminds me of this clip from IT crowd - YouTube - The IT Crowd - Series 2 - Episode 3: Piracy warning

all my friends use viber.

the only thing is you're required to have notifications turned on. Which is a battery drain.

Sheesh guys. You have a $1000 phone and don't want to pay $1.19 for an app? I love looking at peoples' phones and see what apps they use and why. There are so many out there you can't know them all. Got a couple of great ones from SamH004 just the other day and always read the app section of the qantas mag. Oh I always check the apps each month on the iPods and iPhones at the apple store. Some might say I have a problem. I just say I am super organised!

Hey tech heads - need an App if you can help please.

So I bought a new SingTel SIM card in Sing last week cause I got jerked around by Star Hub once too often.

Now to get cheap inter calls from Sing with SingTel SIM I need to dial 019 as inter code rather than 001.

But I have all my contacts set up in iPhone with + as prefix so auto dial inter whatever country I am in - in Sing 001.

Do any of you learned guys or gals know of an App that will automatically substitute pre-designated inter dialling code for standard undesignated inter dialling code?

Is this too way out there?

I can also use this facility for my Chinese number too - I think I have to indeed a 7 or 8 digit prefix to get super cheap rates out of China but I aint gonna do that manually. I guess applicable to many many countries we visit.

Do you have your contacts sync to a PC. Maybe it would be easier to do on a PC application where you can cut/paste etc or maybe do a CSV export, modify, then import.

When I was using an overseas TravelSIM, i manually updated the contacts I would be calling the most.
