767 or 737 for business class for Adl-Syd?

First time poster here. I've been learning lots over the last couple years by reading on here. I've finally earnt enough points for a jasa for two on Adl-Syd. I've been looking at my flying time options and i'm a little confused what would be my best choice.

I'm flying out in november with mrs nanks85 who has never been in business class in her life and will be her 3rd flight in her life. So i'm trying to make this a nice treat for the two of us. I'm a nothing bronze and never will get beyond that due to only flying once or twice a year. So points earning is my game.

Now my choice of flights i've decided are the 17:45 ex Adelaide which is ment to be a 767 or the 18:50 which is a 737-800.

Which one would be a better choice to enjoy business? I'm a bit worried if i go for the 18:50 that i might end up on a 734 with coughpy convertibale j seats as a last minute Qantas change. Where as we all know the 738's have there own business cabin and the propper j seats. Is it worth the risk?

I've been leaning towars the 17:45 with a 767 as i know it's the real business deal but an older style plane.

Also if go on the 17:45 flight it says refreshment meal. But being only 15 mintues from the normal dinner service time. Would i expect a refreshment snack or a dinner stlye meal? I've only ever flown Y so i'm unsure.

Whats everyone's thoughts?

I did the 17:45 and got dinner, but that was back in 2010

Honestly its a personal preference thing. Some of the 737's have the slightly newer style business seats, but the good majority of them out there are standard millenium seats.

To be honest I prefer the 767 because I think its better to take a widebody if you can. It's a little quieter, and more comfortable in my opinion (even if it is a much older aircraft).

Plus, the 767's aren't going to be around forever so you might as well enjoy them whilst you still can.

767 "domestic" business class seating is basically the same as 737-800, and with 767 there is a chance of getting Dreamtime seats (low chance). Flights with scheduled departure time between 5:30pm and 7:00pm (I think it's 7pm) get dinner service.

So I would go with 767 for more spacious feeling and earlier arrival time.

Agree I would take the 767 given the choice - more chance of a better J class meal & drinks or possibly better choices on a 767 than a 737. Widebody 767 always better, too many 737-800s around anyway. In flight entertainment will be pretty average regardless, as the chance of jagging a BSI or gate to gate seatback 737-800 is so small as to be laughable. Also book the 767 because if you get aircraft substitution you would lose the 767 and get a 737-800 anyway. Wheras if you book the 737-800 and get a substitution it would be a 737-400 which would really suck. Crew should be pretty good and attentive in J class no matter what the aircraft.

And welcome to AFF and the J club nanks85. See if you can borrow/obtain two Qantas Club passes, if you can somehow, to make it a bit more of a proper J class experience for Mrs nanks85

Thanks for the reply. I'm now a little confused why i need to obtain Qantas Pub passes as i thought with a jasa which will be booked for myself and mrs nanks85 will included lounge access at Adelaide.

Talking about the lounge in Adelaide. What beer is on tap for consuming? I hear it changes from state to state. Also i might be looking for some lounge passes for the return journey as we will be flying back in Y. The whole point of this trip is for the Coldplay concert coming in november as there not playing in litlle old Adelaide. Plus visiting family in Dapto.

Anyone holding a business class boarding pass is able to use the lounge.

In January I flew on a 767 SYD-ADL and it was one of the international 1-2-2- config. So if you're traveling alone you could try and snag one of the single seats .

Not sure what mrs nanks85 would think about nanks85 "travelling alone" when she is on the same flight (post #7).

I feel the same way. Luckily with most of my flying (apart from to/from CBR) I have a choice.

Unless we were talking about Concorde, I'd almost never choose narrow over twin-aisle.

Is anyone able to tell me what beers are on offer in the Qantas Pub Adelaide? Going to spend an hour or so before boarding in the lounge. I thought i might as well enjoy it while i can. First timer in there.

Was there last week but I didn't have any beer then ... at the top of my head they have at least: Crown, Pure Blonde, Heineken, Coopers Pale Ale and some form of light variety.
AFAIK it varies state by state and the type on tap also varies on what is available - at least that has been the case in MEL for some time...

Fat Yak is a nice drop. Highly reccomend it. It's good to see they've got local drop being Coopers. If only they had some Farmers Union Iced Coffee! My South Australian within is coming out. lol!

I can't confirm that they had Coopers but it would be likely.

The ADL QP has 3 beers on tap Coopers Pale Ale, Heiniken (I think) and a light beer (also I think). I mostly go for a pale.

I can have a look tomorrow morning to confirm.
