Would you say bye to SWMBO or HWMBO for an upgrade?

As my father would say..

"Happy Wife, Happy Life"

Take the upgrade, board, take off, then swap seats (unless you're in the USA of course in which case you're stuck thanks to their rules). Most CSM's will have no problems with a couple swapping, if you ask politely and discreetly :)

I've never heard of "HWMBO" - does such a beast exist?
Mrs Cat and I have been known to share J on different sectors of a JASA where only one seat was available (eg SYD-HBA via MEL) - but if we were both in Y and only one was offered an upgrade, chilvary would rule the day - I value my gonads more than that.

I was trying to be politically correct, and in the context of two gents in a relationship I imagine the possibility of it existing is very real!

I think that would be a very very bad move, even if she would say yes take it... Think twice :!: ... I am already in trouble for our trip to Europe in August. Originally was just me going so I booked a JASA but SWMBO recently decided she was going to join me and is now giving me grief that she has to fly in whY

Oh that is tricky; you are almost best off cancelling the JASA and buying a couple of new tickets, unless a J ticket is in your budget.

If it was a domestic flight in Australia just take the upgrade and give it to the +1.

Just to turn this around, if you were traveling with someone who had more status than you and they got the upgrade, I would say take it.

Be brave ozmille! If you believe in reincarnation she will probably get over it by then.
Keep the JASA and go halves I think would work.

Sort of worked out now, we are no longer on the same QF1, she is now on QF5 to SIN whilst I am on QF1, she then continues with AY to BRU via HEL and I am then connecting on QF5 to FRA. The return JASA is now a YASA where we will meet in SIN and I have selected 80JK for the SIN to SYD and done an upgrade request for the both of us. So on the way to Europe she will fly into BRU whilst I have to drive from FRA to BRU and then on the way back same story. I'll be driving to FRA and she will flying AY BRU to SIN via HEL and an Flounge meet up there before a hopefully successfully upgraded QF2 back to SYD.

I very much doubt I would survive heading forward and leaving SWMBO further aft, so no to the OP.
In any case we would be flying with Miss VC (4yo) so I don't think she would wear it either.

Although, if it was an overnighter, I would send the wife, she needs more sleep than I do.

I'd accept the upgrade.......... which mrsdoc would then sit in.

Funnily enough I did just this only last week - I booked a JASA with the better half in Y (with submitted upgrades to J or PE). Needed the double SCs to push for Plat this year.

Of course I cleared it all beforehand to ensure it was approved :!: As many others note S/HWMBO tends to be less interested in the class of travel and more in the additional benefits they themselves can enjoy (upgrades, extra allowances, lounge etc).

Not here SWMBO is WP in her own right... :)

Reading a couple of posts by shanye2233 on the following on thread had me thinking that this guy is either incredibly brave or incredible stupid. I was thinking what some of your responses would have been & you didn't disappoint. Of course I couldn't let such an opportunity go by without giving my 2c worth. :p

Forget TG bumping you out of J or F with kids on the 773, I think you would have a much bigger problem on your hands if you seriously contemplated sitting in F & having the airline "throw your wife into Y with the kids for that flight". Why don't you volunteer to throw yourself into whY & you can leave your wife in F, or better still join them in whY & travel as a family???

I would be a little bit wary of the Wilshire Stay Sharp Knife so not wanting to lose any body parts I would not do that!

In the past I have sat in F with mrsdrron in J.
However on upcoming trip she is in J and I in Y.

I recently transferred (read raided) all my husband’s FF points to add to mine. He doesn’t like to accumulate too many points; he prefers to spend them as we earn them. This transfer gave me just over the amount needed for a J return on CX from PER -> HKG. There were very few seats available over the September/October school holiday period in either J or Y. And not 2 Y seats on the same flights for any of the dates that suited us. I have a distinct preference for using my (our) points for J travel. So I booked J for me using FF points and have paid for him to travel in Y on the same flights.

I don’t fly well although I really enjoy it, so he wants me to have J seats whenever possible. He is happy enough to sit in Y. I do the planning, booking and paying for all our travels, so that seems fair to me.

PS. I am a little broader in the beam than he is, so I really enjoy the extra width in J.
