There is some discussion ongoing about the QF A380 reconfig leading to 14F/64J/35W/371Y.

Anyone know how we'll sensibly get to 64J, given that removing the last two rows of J on the UD would lead to 60J (or one row to 66J of course).

Cheers,
Greg

re: [4 Class] A380-800 reconfig UD question

Interesting question - it doesnt look straight forward if those are the predicted numbers. Where do those numbers come from?

For refence current config is 14F/72J/32W/332Y

Would the dare split left/right down the middle between tail end of J and Y+?

And unless they remove some fixed structures (toilets/galley) it looks even more difficult. Let's hope the Y numbers are all added to the UD and not by taking an inch out of the lower deck row pitch.

re: [4 Class] A380-800 reconfig UD question

What if the pull out two full rows of J and replace the forward left small galley in front of 11AB with seating (+/- the lounge in front of 11JK)? 72-12+4.

KE get 4 rows infront of the UD exit door (no middle block in row "4").

ie.

2-2-2
2-2-2
2-2-2
2-x-2

Maybe that's the plan?

The AB and JK seats will move forward as two toilets are relocated to the rear of the J cabin. This along with a smaller galley allows two extra seats on each side to be added bringing the total to 64J

re: [4 Class] A380-800 reconfig UD question

Isn't the "reconfig" going to lose the 14F seats? Perhaps J goes into Zone A, Zone E and Zone F, such as:

Zone A = 16 seats in rows 1-3
2-2-2
2-2-2
2-x-2

Zone E = 18 seats in rows 11-13
2-2-2
2-2-2
2-2-2

Zone F = 30 seats in rows 16-20
2-2-2
2-2-2
2-2-2
2-2-2
2-2-2

Then perhaps W at the front of Zone B on lower deck, and Y at the rear of both decks.

Just a thought ...

F isn't going anywhere - it will be the same on the main deck with a few extra economy seats on the left hand side because of the removal of a galley unit.

re: [4 Class] A380-800 reconfig UD question

How do they propose to offer the same meal services with less galleys. And more pax with less toilets.

On second thought, dont answer that as I probably dont want to know the answer.....

re: [4 Class] A380-800 reconfig UD question

Well if you have a look at the current J A380 galley, parts of the right side are completely empty. So removing some of it and redesigning it make sense. It's only unused storage space being removed. The 1 thing that ultimately decides the speed of the service is the number of crew which is not being reduced and most likely increased.

The W galley is quite large as well. Probably one of the larger galleys onboard and certainly adequate for the current 32W. Adding an extra 3 W and 30 Y is just over a half cart worth of food.

re: [4 Class] A380-800 reconfig UD question

The reconfig. for the 388 is for the 4 class birds as per this thread.

It the new ones that have not come on line that will be just the three classes.

re: [4 Class] A380-800 reconfig UD question

I dont think birds #13 and #14 are due for another six months.

I remain of the position that it is unlikely that these birds will come in a different configuration to the other 12.
It was announced that they would be three class, before the announcement about the deferral of #15 thru #20

The AB and JK seats will move forward as two toilets are relocated to the rear of the J cabin. This along with a smaller galley allows two extra seats on each side to be added bringing the total to 64J

So there'll effectively be a new row 15AB & JK?

re: [4 Class] A380-800 reconfig UD question

Well it's starting, from QF source:

Airbus A380 VH-OQD positioned Sydney - Manila this evening as QF6025 where it will undergo cabin reconfiguration to up capacity from 450 to 485 seats. All reconfiguration will take place on the Upper Deck where galleys and toilets will be re-arranged to permit the Business Class section to be reduced from 72 to 64 seats, Premium Economy to be moved forward and increased from 32 to 35 seats and a new Economy cabin to be fitted at the rear of the Upper Deck with 39 seats.

re: [4 Class] A380-800 reconfig UD question

That's not entirely correct. There is reconfiguration on the main deck as well. There will be extra economy seats on the main deck (9). The upper deck will only have 30 economy seats (not 39)

The removal of a galley unit means economy on the left hand side will go all the way to doors 2.

re: [4 Class] A380-800 reconfig UD question

Is it only me or is that bad news rather? More Y, less J- ergo less chance for upgrade seats to J.

Is my thinking wrong here?

No, no , no... just more 'enhancements' of J & Y. :)

Adding 7% more capacity to the same aircraft could not be construed as good news in anyone's eyes other than the accountants or others who seek profit.

re: [4 Class] A380-800 reconfig UD question

More capacity does a few things:

- Spreads the burden of the flight cost across a greater number of people thus potentially allowing seats to be lower in price (although the reverse is of course true in J)
- Creates more award inventory potential in whY
- if it leads to greater profit for QF Int'l this provides more security to the long term future of the business

Probably also enables the sale of three more exit seats to economy PAX at the location of what are currently the coveted 38J/K in Premium Economy.

...
The removal of a galley unit means economy on the left hand side will go all the way to doors 2.
There's three more exit seats they can charge economy PAX for ...
