I reached platinum about 3 months ago, and have been pretty happy with my journey thus far.

But what now? I have heard rumours from some colleagues who fly Singapore<>Melbourne almost weekly who say they are seeing "xx points to Platinum Plus"

Realistically, does anyone know if such a level exists? What comes after Platinum? I'm closing in on 2000 SC's and with an international to London shortly, I'm expecting to hit 2500SC's pretty quickly...so... at what point do you get REALLY special recognition (not that it's not special already)?

And does Virgin have a "for life" level?

There is discussion in the QF forum about a CL member who has been approached by Virgin -to join an invitation only program "Invite+".

Otherwise no lifetime status and so far, no higher levels.

Just Partner Gold / Partner Platinum.

There has been talk of a level higher than Platinum, but it may not simply be earned by Status Credits!

Virgin does not currently have a "for life" level, but it would be great if they did

To be frank I think DJ Plat gives QF P1 a run for its money, cannot imagine what a Plat Plus would offer, but interested!

<rushes to check if there's a SCs required to platinum + in my account>

Nope, nothing here.

maybe not xx_xx SC's in a year, but say, 10000SCs in total, might be worth something...

I'm a platinum SPG also, and they have a similar deal, 500 nights for lifetime platinum, so I wonder if it's any different...

Only thing I'm keen on now that I have platinum, is keeping it - I don't need or want anything extra, except to keep it for life.

Actually no. Give me a ****ty free meal when I'm not on a flexi fare! Regardless of the pig I made of myself I the lounge just now, I'd still like that option :-p then again, lounge access is the same really...

Hmmm, not so sure about that. The DJ lounges are a disappointment compared to the QF J lounges, particularly in SYD and CBR (and of course, no F lounges anywhere). I guess there are complimentary upgrades, but not sure where else DJ Platinum trumps QF Platinum, let alone QF P1.

Any Time Access
Priority boarding (Consistently)
Hilton Diamond status match

Oh and first row of economy if we are talking WP rather than WP1

Not much point having F lounges when you don't actually have a first class cabin.... What a silly statement to make:rolleyes:

Good points, though you'd have to pay me to visit the DJ CBR or SYD lounge unless flying.

There is also the formal fly ahead benefit, which is a win over having to rely on the benevolence of the QF J lounge staff when on a red e-deal.

I took the status match with Hertz - but after about 2/3rds of the 15 rentals I did failed to credit, I flagged Hertz away. Nice idea though.

I realise PB is a major for you. For me it is the lounges - getting a seat at peak hours, having decent food. BNE DJ has been fine, but SYD and CBR are awful. Not overwhelmed with ADL last week either, but haven't seen the QF offering there to compare.

Off-topic, how did your DJ flight to NZ go?

Not the worst idea, perhaps just a rewording to a First class experience, like the CL, if they were aiming for a better lounge experience, but i do understand where you're coming from. Perhaps some international lounges would be a better start ;)

Not bad....although I did experience the whole "Y passengers plonking themselves down in the PE seats whilst waiting for the WC." One lady made herself quite at home until dispatched back to Y by the Cabin Supervisor. The journey was made quite enjoyable by meeting an occasional contributor here and very frequent flyer.

The product is obviously not as good as QF's J but wasn't bad at all for a 3 hours plus flight. I had breakfast in the Air NZ lounge so didn't eat on the plane, however the food offering did not look great on board.

There are no plans for VA/DJ to introduce J to the route according to the Cabin Supervisor and this is apparently because of the relationship with Air NZ who don't offer a J service.

The 6900 points plus AUS$240'ish cost made it an attractive alternative to Y.

Back on topic the Hilton status match and complimentary upgrades have had the biggest impact with me. I'll requalify Diamond with Hilton this year and have enjoyed the upgrades, free internet, exec lounge access and free breakfasts. Very nice.

I hate to revert to my increasingly recurring "do we really have to pretend that we've spotted a problem that Virgin aren't doing anything about when a solution has already been announced and is being implemented" gripe but BOTH THE SYDNEY and CANBERRA lounges are currently being extensively redeveloped. Sydney is literally being expanded and remodelled (works currently under way, space being massive increased and extra floor being added) and Canberra (and Perth) are being entirely replaced (VA and their lounge are moving to the new terminal under construction in Canberra in the not too distant future.

[FWIW Adelaide is being expanded and remodelled too although i do think it's one of the more underwhelming lounges in the network]

I think it's one thing to acknowledge a flaw. It's quite another to refuse to acknowledge a massive investment in fixing it and in this case there is clearly such an investment in train as evidenced by the construction sites you can view in both airports.

Besides what has already been mentioned:

More complimentary op ups
More earn on non airline spend
More SC Bonus offers on non airline offers ie. Credit Cards
Family Pooling
and for me the big one, real coffee when the lounge is open.

On the subject of F lounges, for me any DJ lounge would be better than the BNE F lounge ;).

My comments are based on having been an elite QFF member since 97.
