Given mining company fitness for work policies and the reported judgement about workers comp being applicable while on work travel but out of duty hours (the lady having sexual congress) I'd suggest that the mining companies should be cracking down on this and imposing a dry policy. (yes I have also heard of, know, miners who would have full stocked eskys in the car waiting for them when they got off shift for the 10 minute drive home)

i'll reserve further comment til i get more facts....but to/from perth domestic/international sectors seem to have more 'issues' than any other port in oz...:?:

Interesting, and everyone is entitled to their opinion but let's be honest here ; when you have the QP, regardless of whether someone is mining or not if there's the temp of free booze there will always be a percentage of people who go wild, mining or not.

I believe Wednesday night is the fly home night!

This is often the case for a 9/5 roster, 2/1 (weeks) tends to differ a bit more.

That's all good in theory, however not always the case. I find it quite funny actually that people on a 9/5 or 2/1 roster think they have such a hard earned thirst on their way home. My god. Do a 4/2 or 6/3 and then come back to me and tell me you've hard it hard.

Just a further comment on this ; fit for work is relevant to when you are actually working. It has nothing to do with the way you conduct yourself on the way home. So in that light, if you blow 0.0 each morning before fronting up for work then what's the issue?

Workers comp in WA doesn't cover to and from work, it does in my home state of NSW though. :D

If the company is paying for your transport back to your home?

Of course. I was more thinking the compo situation. If they injury themselves on the flight home does company injury management kick in. If so, FTW, which is about totally safety in the workplace, possibly could be applicable - in theory.

Point taken about WA compo rules. I think NSW might be the odd one out on those.

and the ACT.

Even if the company if paying for you journey in WA you aren't 'on the job' so don't have cover. In the NSW, ACT, QLD and either Tas or SA if you have an accident on the way to or from work or at lunch time playing squash then you are covered but because you 'weren't on the job' is doesn't effect the insurance premium paid by the employer.

Are you certain worker's comp in WA does not cover the trip to/from work?

I thought I had seen some situations where the travel was definitely not work sponsored and comp still covered, but I may be wrong.

Employers can buy a 'top up' which brings their policies in line with NSW, but only a handful do it, usually companies that want to have the same level of cover for all Australian workers regardless of location.

The link I provided has this explicitly covered:

When is a travel injury NOT covered under Workers’ Compensation?
A Worker is not covered:
If they suffer an injury during a journey between their place of residence and place of
employment or vice versa

... wayyyyyyyyyy too many bogan-ish drunks in Y - which was made obvious by the constant swearing you could hear as they walked past to find their seats, and one of them shouting out "coughk yeah boysssssss - free business class seats", before being told by the crew to move to their assigned seats immediately or risk being removed from the flight...

I was on the same BNE redeye flight and the guy who yelled that out was standing right next to where I was sitting. There were some very large gentlemen and ladies taking the long walk to Y with a few comments by them how much they would appreciate the extra space in J. I fell asleep right after takeoff so I missed anything further.
