re: [fare gone] Yangon to New York, London etc. R/T in C < $800

From the silkair.com web site:

APPLICABLE LAW AND JURISDICTION The law applicable to these Conditions of Use of Web Site is the law of the Republic of Singapore and the courts of the Republic of Singapore will have exclusive jurisdiction in case of any dispute.

So if Danger did his transaction in Australia then by using the silkair.com website he may have to pursue this through Singapore system? Is that how others read it?

Interesting. Thanks for that. I'll have a look around on the web tomorrow for any information.
just because its published on their web site does not mean its enforcible. There may well be other laws in Singapore (where the company selling the service is located), Myanmar (the country of origin of the purchased service), Australia (the location of the browser client), or whatever country the ticket is issued.

So have they actually issued the tickets? i.e. do you have a valid ticket number? I expect that once its been issued its more likely to stand than be revoked. But if its just a booking/reservation without yet completing the ticket issue process, then the risk of it not being honoured remains high.

I have a ticket number (629 (MI) stock). I have an e-ticket. I have a booking reference. The booking appears as "confirmed" in my KrisFlyer account. My credit card has a charge pending.

Dam, wish I had seen this yesterday as I would have jumped on it for sure, will be interesting to see how it pans out.

As a side point after reading all 10 pages I am amazed for a frequent flying/travel website how naive people are about Myanmar or Burma (I am not going in to the politics of it).

Seconded. Considering its proximity to Australia and rich cultural heritage (not to mention rather a lot of controversy!) I'm incredibly surprised that every single person on this forum couldn't name the country and the capital.

I too am surprised that forum members have never heard of Yangon. I wonder if people are still more familiar with Rangoon & Burma? But I would be extremely surprised if more than a handful of members can actually name the capital of Myanmar!

Not sure of the spelling, but I believe it's Napyidaw or something like that.

re: [fare gone] Yangon to New York, London etc. R/T in C < $800

The only reason I originally found this fare was because I had an epiphany - I'm travelling for cultural experiences, not to see some touristy place in your run of the mill SE Asian country!
I've heard nothing but really good things about Myanmar... Well in terms of a tourist experience anyway.

Yangon was the capital when I visited the country! Not sure what inspired them to move the capital.

re: [fare gone] Yangon to New York, London etc. R/T in C < $800

The urban legend capital is that the capital was moved on the advice of an astrologer: Myanmar's Ghost Capital Rises From The Jungle : NPR

More practically, a green-fields site under military control was thought to discourage the possibility of public demonstrations by dissidents.

The design sounds like Canberra on steroi_s.

So at what point will you believe that the fare will be honored? Surely an e-ticket and book reference number gives you confidence. I'm not being smart, I genuinely wonder when the point of absolute confirmation is....

I may have to seek some advice on that but, from lay perspective, I plan to give it at least a week, possibly two. At the same time, I feel that once my credit card has been officially charged (ie. when the charge has posted, rather than pending as it is now) that would be a fairly good sign.

Regardless, travel is not until December and it's not essential travel. I had not planned to book it and if I don't go, no skin off my nose.

I'd appreciate others' thoughts on it, though.

I'm of the same opinion as you Danger, but I know these types of 'special' fares have happened before, I'd be interested as you obviously are, if there is a precedent of any type.

Thanks Brads92 for your find! Feel free to post any others that you find :)

I'm like Danger on this - booked some tickets for December - a white Christmas in Europe hopefully. Have a booking reference and ticket number, so will just wait and see if the ticket is honoured. If so, I'll be posting some queries on things to do in Yangon!

re: [fare gone] Yangon to New York, London etc. R/T in C < $800

It appears the Silk Air website has now been 'fixed' with the correct pricing shown (J prices now approx 10 times what they were during the glitch).

Many thanks to brads92 for the heads up - unfortunately I was too late, but good to see the sharing and caring :)

Now, I'm off to trawl various airlines for odd routings :D

First sign of bad news. The hold put on my credit card following my bookings has been removed. Bookings still visible on MI website.

Or it's the bank auto releasing the hold after x days!

Yes but it also means the merchant has not finalised the transaction doesn't it?
