Moree mayor Katrina Humphries said she received the call from a Qantaslink
manager last week as her town was suffering from the worst floods to devastate
the region in 36 years.
The northern NSW town had suffered 10 days without sunshine – flooding more
than 300 homes and causing serious damage to many others.
Ms Humphries said Qantaslink called last Saturday to ask how they could help
the flood victims.
“I said flippantly, unless you can get a plane in here loaded fresh fruit for
our kids, bread and milk, well there's not much else you can do to help,” she
said.
