Points and Status Credits on EY flights/bus

I should note that I have posted the same question on ft but am not convinced I have received a correct answer.

I am currently booking a flight which includes AUH - SYD in J and am trying to optimize my Velocity Status Credit earn.

Under the fare rules I can elect to travel on EY 470 AUH-BNE with a stop in SIN and then a DJ flight to SYD. Does anyone know if I would earn status credits for the AUH-SIN and SIN-BNE sectors separately even though the ticket only shows AUH-BNE. The velocity call centre were unable to answer this question.

Also, EY offers a bus AUH - DXB as part of the ticket. I only ask because I remember Qantas ran a bus from TPR - PBO (or somewhere similar) on which you could earn points. Is there any chance or earning points/status credits on the EY bus service or am I better using the chauffer car service?

Not done it myself, but am 99.999% sure that will credit as AUH-BNE unless you have specifically booked AUH-SIN, SIN-BNE.

That won't get you any SCs or points, so I'd absolutely use the car service.

Sorry notzac but I believe you are wrong about the status credits - You get status credits and points from each sector on all long-haul international travel. I found it buried in the Velocity Terms and Conditions last month as I am also flying VA (EY Metal) in 12 weeks and wanted to know.

There is a distinction made between DJ and VA coding in the T&C's

6.21 When a Member takes a flight with a flight number beginning with DJ that includes a connecting flight(s) on the same itinerary. This is considered one Eligible Sector. For example Albury to Brisbane via Sydney is one Eligible Sector.


6.22 When a Member takes a flight with a flight number beginning with VA that includes a connecting flight(s) on the same itinerary, this is considered two Eligible Sectors. For example, Brisbane to London, via Abu Dhabi is two Eligible Sectors.

Having said that, if you have a booking BNE-AUH as a single flight number all the way through, I don't think that constitutes a 'connecting flight', and will likely post as one flight, notwithstanding the stopover in SIN.

Oh my bad, thought the stop over point was AUH.

My guess is that if both flights have the same number then it will considered one sector but if they have different numbers then it will considered two sectors.

That's it, yup - exactly the same as what happens if you book QF1 SYD-SIN-LHR (if that's what it is these days) - when it credits to QFF, it credits as SYD-LHR.

Thanks everyone for the information.

The AUH-BNE flight is showing on the booking engine (orbitz) as seperate sectors but it is the same flight number and I have a feeling it is just identifying the seperate sectors for booking information pruposes and on the ticket will show as one flight.

Will go with the car and not the bus in the UAE.

on a similar vein, if i book with EY flight numbers but travel part on VA metal, does this ( the VA metal sectors) qualify for the 4 - 8 sectors to maintain Gold/ plat staus on VA?
Also will status credits be applied on each different flight number or final destination - ie one domestic sector then international - Thx

I think in order to qualify as a "Qualifying Sector" it will need a DJ or VA code.

I think a VA code is required for eligible sectors.
This is how my last PER-AUH trip credited, bit backwards in terms of routing but work books exclusively with EY.


Also by flying on EY codes you get a better points earn rate, compared to the VA Intl rates.
