Not bookable yet by the looks of things:

AN AIRFARE war is set to break out on flights to Asia following the announcement budget carrier AirAsia X will begin flying from Sydney to Malaysia. The airline is offering introductory flights to Kuala Lumpur from April from $99 one way, on to Bali from $159 and coughet in Thailand from $139.

It follows Singapore Airline's budget offshoot Scoot's announcement last month that it would begin flying from Sydney to Singapore to July.

The new airlines will make it quicker and cheaper to get to Asia than ever before, with AirAsia X offering links to more than 80 destinations.

AirAsia X already flies to KL from the Gold Coast, Melbourne and Perth and the introduction of flights from Sydney had been highly anticipated.

The reverse is nice too KUL-SYD-KUL for 571MYR all in (360MYR taxes).

No through fares from HKG though :(

Syd-Kul-Syd with premium flat bed (business) for $947 on a dummy booking in July!! Wow...
AirAsia X - Premium
Only negative is that you use the LCCT at KUL...not the nicest terminal in the world but I have seen worse....

Pretty good A$7.00 +A$92 Tax SYD-KUL :D

Some of the on-flights pretty great too, e.g fly to Saigon for $149 (from SYD). All the reviews from this part of the world suggest Air Asia is the premium LCC (i.e. better that Jetstar) too.

Great times too! SYD-KUL departs @ 1100 and gets in at 1800.
Return KUL-SYD departs around midnight, arrives around 1000.

Sweet.

Just booked 3 x KUL-SYD flights at AUD75 each (including seat assignment fees). Pretty hard to beat.

I expect though that the MEL/OOL flights will lose some business to the SYD flights.

For those looking at the business class seating, beware of the luggage limit.

Methinks you protest too much. Can't actually quite work out what the upgrade fees are for the premium fares but even in basic Y the fee to upgrade to 30kg is only $54 one way. If I'm getting a J product at Y prices ($499 one way) have to say I don't think an extra $54 is going to kill this as being an exceptional value fare. Who else offers a ~$550 ow premium class fare to Asia?

Air Asia web site is now saying $99 is sold out - but that $149 is available. I didn't check further

** ALL Gone - You were too slow **
I did, all $249 and up now, but think the next cheapest is now October 14.
Given that Jetstar and Scoot will be doing $250 air fares(I guess) - I would think AirAsia held some back for further sales later. But shows massive pent up demand for budget tix out of SYD.

Could always your Priority Pass with Citi Signature to get in to the Plaza Premium Lounge - Landside!!

LCCC and main Airport use same runway.

If you don't print out prepaid BUS voucher in LCCC- it is a royal pain. Much better to buy the bus (if you want bus) on arrival. Taking a bus to the other side, then the express train does not work out much quicker - unless peak hour.

Reminds me Tiger is a distant 5th in my picks, should they open up again out of Syd or Mel, not Perth.
Air Asia sells insurance for their own connections and own delays, while Tiger says tough - our fault, but you loose anyway (at least untill ACCC tells them this is overly harsh and unfair). Scoot should bypass the bad smell left behind by a ogre manager with partial continious attention.

Just came back on AirAsia with 32kg and another 20Kg seamail(Aussie$30). Their shops did well, and Duty Free at LCCC heaps cheaper than SydAirport ripoff prices.

OMG: THey are showing $279 and up(plus plus) but a connection / Intra Asia Hop is calculated at no discount -420 odd on PROMO, everything above $400 - throw in baggage and other charges
tha fact thats is LCC with tight cough ticket forfeit conditions. Say $900 return to BKK- YAWN!
Fine - Full service Airlines like Thai, SQ and even QF are in the ball park as BETTER Value.
It may be that they are holding prices high to not get MAS angry.

Management: I smell a sale being lost to Jetstar. Its my perception that intra asia airfares are being sold/added on at MORE than individual bookings. BTW Shops in Aussie retail had the worst 2 weeks ever, but dont know if GFC non-spending is hitting airfare sales - yet.

At $99 per sector, I know people who were booking just for the sake of it, and in the worse case, just forfeit the fare paid. It was that good of a bargain and everyone knows KL is a very good value destination especially higher end hotels for easily less than AUD$200 per night.

I agree, personally I would pay no more than $500 return inclusive of taxes, baggage, meals and seat selection .... otherwise I'd fly a full service carrier - probably MH as they are joining OW this year.

I have been on Air Asias email list for some time, they have sales all the time so expect under $500 will be fairly common. They do have a fair bit of expereince in keeping their planes full!

Also have launched a frequent flyer program - Tune2Big with points called MyBiggies.
Appears very Asian centric and the website is pathetic with limited description of earn / burn rate.

Also don't tell you till midway thru the signup process that there is a 10 MYR (or higher in other currencies eg US$5) signup fee
