A Japan Airlines flight bound for Sydney has been forced to turn back after takeoff when a business class passenger seat caught fire, reports say.

Curious to know why you think that..? So far as I was aware, JL is a reasonably safe airline?

Aren't you allowed to bring on board cigarette lighters from Japan? They have all those smoking rooms throughout the terminal past security and customs. I am sure you are allowed to carry it 'on your person' but not in your luggage.

If it is the case, it is a stupid rule.

I have never been on JAL.

I am probably being a lot critical of person who would try and light up a seat on a Airline.

First question? Why would someone want to use a lighter to ignite a seat.

2nd question? Why would a J customer want to ignite there comfy seat. Y customers can fully understand it.

I would probably say reasonably safe is a fair wording, with a quick google search they have had 3 crashes.

May be I am being a little suspicious of the airline and there reasoning behind the fire.
