Hi

I was wondering if anyone out there knows what happens after a FF has been awarded lifetime gold?

I am currently 530SC away from the magical 14,000SC and I'll have these by the end of March.

Basically I'm wondering do I continue flying with Qantas or move to another airline? I don't think they'll ever give me Chairmans Lounge membership even though I am a CEO and have accrued all my SC since 2007, as an organisation we don't spend the $1m+ needed.

If anyone out there knows please let me know. Is there a Platinum lifetime award that's kept secret?

Cheers

Malcolm

There is nothing more than LTG on offer but I think a email to QF with your details and SC earn couldn't hurt.

They may offer some incentive and you haven't lost anything if they ignore you.

Good luck,

There are some answers to your question here:

http://www.australianfrequentflyer....t-flyer-program/finally-made-ltg-26802-3.html

In short, there has been some probing by QF with advisory panel members as to the suitability of a LTP level at 28000 SCs, nothing yet, in the meantime you get to enjoy your benefits without the need for re qualification while waiting for enhancements which take away most of what makes it worth it to achieve LT xx_ in the first place, which is not surprising as more and more members start hitting the milestones. I am sure you dont see any value in LTS now regardless of how close you are to Gold?

Welcome Malecc

Once you hit LTG, there are no more gazetted life time milestones. Plenty of hearsay and rumour about a life time platinum, but no solid confirmations and certainly no published guidelines.

Your best bet is to evaluate your flying patterns and loyalty needs. The only draw to keep flying QF are:
  • You like them
  • They serve your needs
  • You need to requalify for Platinum (or oneworld Emerald) every year
  • Your earning and burning is optimised around QFF

Otherwise, if you are looking for other goals, you may want to consider other FFPs. For oneworld, you may want to consider AA (although their Emerald tier - Executive Platinum - requires either 100,000 qualifying miles, or 100,000 butt-in-seat miles, or 100 qualifying sectors); although you already have the oneworld equivalents of their lifetime statuses through QF (AA also give lifetime statuses at 1 million miles and 2 million miles - lifetime Ruby and Sapphire respectively - but these miles can come from any source, not just flying. Plus, AA offer upgrade instruments to their elites, but only usable on AA operated flights).

Other ideas are to try moving to a combination of Velocity and perhaps Star Alliance. I'd reckon later this year when Velocity relaunches / presents a better program, they may include life time recognition.

I can tell you what happened when I attained Qantas Lifetime Gold

Since attaining Lifetime Gold about 4 years ago I have only earned 20 Qantas Status Credits. All my flights have been credited to AAdvantage with the exception of two E-class Qantas domestic flights. I have earned around 1.5 Million AAdvantage miles and redeemed about 700K miles for many awards that would have cost around 2M QFF points and around $1500 additional "taxes" for the same awards using QFF program.

Welcome to AFF Malecc!

If you do that much flying then Lifetime Platinum is a possibility. May not quite be there officially but if it is introduced at some point in the future you don't want too many years wasted searching for greener pastures elsewhere.

Is Gold status enough? Will you be able to do enough flying to maintain Platinum status and try to get status on another airline as well?

I guess it depends what you fly on normally, Qantas, other airlines… and ultimately if you’re happy with the program. If your answers are Qantas and that you’re happy, why move? Otherwise, there are possibilities to consider.

 What more can I do?

Presumably there is a "glitch" in the system!! :)

Hehe it's because you nee 14,000 SCs not 14,080 - so you have over-shot it. :P

Actually the same happened to me, and in a day or so it was corrected, so maybe it's not automatic.

I have been meaning to ask but keep forgetting. Does anyone know what happens to QP membership when LTG is reached?

+1 especially lifetime QP membership. I think I reached QF Gold around 1 year after buying life membership (QF Gold would normally freeze QP memberships?). I've not gone below Gold (or Platinum, that I reached soon after) since. If I get to lifetime Gold (I'm over 50% there), is there a pro-rata QP refund? I'm guessing NO.

I reckon you're guessing right!

No guess about it - gone!

I have three months hanging over since ~1997 ...
