One of my favorite aircraft is making a return to BNE with ROK and MKY to be serviced by two 717s, 1A rocks on these babies!

My experience of a QantasLink 717 (to Hamilton Island several years ago) was that the interior was lighter and brighter than other planes, but it was extremely noisy!

Impulse lives!!

I thought they were new 717's to the fleet? I seem to recall QF ordering a couple more around about the time they ordered a bunch more Fokkers..... Could be wrong...

I believe the one I flew on was an ex Impulse plane (ultimately possibly an ex TWA plane - there was what looked like a TWA impression in the bulkhead).

Sounds like the B717's are to replace the Alliance F100 aircraft that operate those routes on behalf of QF. Maybe they're trying to cut ties with Alliance as it could be tricky down the track if they were both competing for the same mining contracts.

THe QF link PR piece does say new meaning new to the fleet I imagine given 717s ceased production some time ago, of course that's not to say one of the Impluse jets might sub occasionally.

One QLink B717 provided us in the CNS QP interesting entertainment last week when CNS Airport went into full emergency mode with a recently departed 717 returning due to landing gear probs.

3 fire trucks stationed at RWY 15 departure end and a fleet of ambo's waiting over near the GA side. By now window seats were all gone at the QP!!

Aircraft landed normally and stopped on RWY 15 until towed away - a few delayed departures sitting at the airbridges during this event.

THEN ... came a string of arrivals who had been practising holding patterns for a while.

Not sure I like B717/DC9GT;)

The 717 is one of my faves :)

There where whispers of them coming back to run some OOL flights ... Will forever hope ;)

I hate the B717, cramped, noisey, no IFE, and wrecks my ears with the pressure on take off and landing.

However thetakeoff angle is great.

Any ideas when these services will start? I've been booking DJ just to avoid the Alliance services out of ROK and MKY.

I'm intrigued why QLink use the B717 aircraft rego in Cairns (eg: NXD, NXQ) as a callsign with ATC instead of a regular Qantaslink No.:?:

It has something to do with the operating carrier. The QLink callsign is used by Sunstate and Eastern who are both owned by Qantas. The 717's are operated by a contractor company (Formerly National Jet Systems, now Cobham I believe) so can't use the QLink sign. They could use whatever Cobham's callsign is... not really sure why they wouldn't (other than Qantas having an issue with it not matching the paint scheme).

Thanks danielribo,

I presumed it was something related to QF Sunstate & Eastern takeover, but still odd given their current QF paint.

Cheers
