I currently have about 500,000+ Qantas Points - thinking of either a trip to HKG/Beijing or LAX/New York early in the new year with the family (2 Adults and 2 Kids - aged 11 and 14).

Any suggestions on how to maximise the use of these points for these trips. ie. should I use them for reward flights or maybe its better value to use them to buy holiday vouchers from Qantas FF store or something entirely different.

Appreciate any suggestions.

Welcome to AFF bigfield. :)

I haven't used points for anything other than award flights or upgrades, and that is because anything else seems poor value (but as I said, no experience). But as far as flying goes, you could use them as straight-out awards, or as upgrades to a higher class (not guaranteed), or a mix of the two. Probably best to nut out what you want to do in a little more detail, then people will be able to advise. I would certainly use them on flights rather than shopping.

Yes shopping produces the lowest value, next would be economy flights then high value would come from upgrades and direct business class flights.

What cove said - premium cabin awards and upgrades are always the best value.
