Sitting in the JLounge at SYD T1 and the ASX display board is all green this morning. Not sure what the Aussie Battler is doing. Might way till tomorrow to extract some HKD from an ATM - j think I have enough in my wallet and on Octopus card to see me through till then.

"Lower interest rates can boost bank profitability so I took a shot and bought shares in the big banks this morning during the big crunch so it may have been a good or bad idea". Quote from Cove Yesterday.

Good call Cove, time to take a profit, wait and do it again. ?

I'm not sure about the system cove uses, it could be more sophisticated that what's available to mere [-]morals[/-] mortals like myself. But there is a 3 day settlement period that should preventing selling today. There is also the tax treatment, which involves a 45 day wait depending on how you want the ATO to treat the profits, IIRC.

Really just congratulating Cove on what could be a clever move .

Death and taxes are the only certainties so credit card all the taxes and defer on that death idea.
By the way you could sell shares and currencies within seconds but that is not a good idea if you want to sleep at night!

I have noticed the cash exchanges were offering around USD1.01-1.02 today and the THB is back close to 31 so I am a happier chap now than yesterday.

Now just hope it stays that way for the next 12-24 months. ;)

The world needs more mere morals, or better iPAD checkers;)

Mortals with morals works for me.
Got the English pound just a tad over $1.50 so that looks ok now for a project I am working on.
On shares luck helps plus when Australian banks drop below their last years low you should pay attention and consider buying especially if the interest rates on the futures market are falling.
In the foreign exchange market no one really knows so buying half is not always a bad idea if you like the rate and you are travelling in 90 days. Alternatively get a 28 degrees card as it saves about 3% minimum on buying things overseas.

The high Australian dollar is about to cause a major job shift out of Australia to other cheaper countries as our Reserve Bank governor concentrates on inflation and thinks higher interest rates will fix it.
Our top 100 employers in Australia are all looking to dump off staff or hire new staff overseas as structurally we are now the new Switzerland of our region only we can get 6 % interest easily when it should be half that.

In reality this thread has long outlived it's usefulness. When this thread started the Aussie was indeed in free fall. Now and for a long time it's been at, near or above parity. At 70 pages this thread is unwieldy and all over the place. Close it I say.

Change your setting to 40 post per page and it's only page 18 :!:

v8Statesman has moved to a Caprice since he started this thread and he is looking really good.

If you click on the little down-arrow thingy icon to teh left of the thread title (in the list of threads in a forum or search) you jump to the first unread post in the thread. So no need to wade through 70 (or 40) pages of a thread to find the recent posts.

The topic is still valid for discussion and starting a new thread for this discussion is not really going to help. So for now, no reason to close this long-living thread.

So if it goes in free fall again would we start a new thread? (May we not need it for many, many years!)
