We are travelling from Sydney via SQ232 arr Singapore at 1740 local on WED 17 AUG 11 and staying at the Concord Hotel, 100 Orchard Rd. Then depart for Heathrow from Singapore at 1245 on THU 18 AUG 11.

Well, Singapore is all about food and shopping! I'm not much of a shopper but I've been known to eat. ;)

You could try heading off to a hawker centre to eat, and the Zoo Night Safari (not necessarily in that order). Newton Circus is probably the best known of the hawker centres (and great food). Lau Pa Sat is also very good, probably a little less geared for tourists but rustic, tasty and cheap. There is also the East Coast Seafood Centre which has some places (e.g. Jumbo Seafood) that specialise in Chilli Crab and Black Pepper Crab (yummo) - taxi likely required to get there, but they're relatively cheap. I'd choose any of these places ahead of Clarke Quay.

As alluded to, you could possibly do the zoo safari first then the hawker thing afterwards, they're open till all hours. If leaving at 1245 the next day I'd be inclined to just pack what I could into the evening, sleep in as late as possible, and head out to the airport late the next morning. But everyone's different, and if you want to get up early and make the most of your time there, perhaps just wander up Orchard Rd and check out the shops and stuff.

Enjoy your trip!

I stopped over there for a evening and 3/4 of next day in 2009 and just got out and walked around down Orchard Road, down around the Harbour Area, past the Raffles etc and did the Singapore Flyer, just a general look around which i hadn't done in the past, but then i am not much of a shopper or an eater...

I know Changi Airport also offers like a guided tour where you go out on a bus (or it did anyway) for people with stop overs of like 4-6 hours or something, not sure if you might be able to jump on that, but you might arrive too late and leave too early...

Personally I would have a relaxing dinner and a walk down Orchard Rd.

Night Zoo left me feeling a blah, most animals sleeping or too hard to see in the dark. Give me day light so I can appreciate these wonderful creatures. also do you want to another 1/2 hr travel each way from Orchard Rd is so there is a bus service to Zoo from your hotel.

In the morning again relax before that long flight to LHR and enjoy London and where ever you are going
