Was going to stay in december but got this email just now-
Dear Drron On Monday we announced that the Management agreement of The Westin Auckland Lighter Quay will cease to be in effect from the 29th July, 2011. The hotel has been working closely with the Receivers Tim Downes and Richard Simpson of Grant Thornton New Zealand Ltd, however the current dispute with the unit holders cannot be resolved, therefore we are unable to continue our operations as normal. Unfortunately we will be unable to accommodate your upcoming stay on November 28th. We are happy to assist in making alternative arrangements for you, please let us know if you would like us to proceed to make a booking for you at the Langham Auckland.

The only good thing about all of that letter is that the Langham is not a bad hotel (at least from the looks of things; never tried it myself, but it's damn well expensive it'd better be good!)

Of course, when you are rebooked there (hopefully at no charge!) you won't get any SPG benefits and probably no points, so that sucks.

Hate to say it but SPG aren't really giving Oceania the attention it deserves. In talking to the SPG rep during SMD2, the focus is definitely more on China, China and....China.

Agreed. The number of their Oceania properties being unloaded is getting stupid. For the life of me I still can't understand why they dumped Perth after god knows how long there - specially given that occupancy rates are always quite high.

Yes but my booking was to get the 5 nights for plat requalification.
The Viaduct Harbour is a hotel in name only-no services.
We stayed in the old Sheraton many,many years ago.

Starwood Hotels & ResortsStarwood has no hotels in New Zealand now. The Queenstown ones were going to be managed by Starwood, but ended up being Hiltons instead. Hilton has quite a presence, with hotels in Auckland, Taupo and Queenstown.

I thought it was rumoured that Accor was moving it and rebranding it as a Sofitel? Or has that changed since they took over the old Hyatt and made it a Pullman?

No one is talking about the new Sheraton, which is why I referred to a past time frame, your post was the first to mention new! It was the demise of the MEL Sheraton some 5years ago along with BNE that saw this SPG PLAT move to another chain, as I do 180 to 240 night a year in Australian hotels, the ongoing demise of SPG hotels has vindicated my decision.

Then there were Sheratons at Uluru and alice springs-have stayed in all the closed ones.Sydney airport,Wentworth and Rotorua in NZ-stayed at them all.

and the aloft Sydney Airport on O'Riordan that was announced in 2007 for a 2009 opening and never happened - I assume became the Quest Mascot.

and the W Sydney (Woolloomooloo) which was bought by Taj and became Blue Sydney.

It's been some time since I have roamed around this forum.

I saw a couple of posts recently on the departure of Westin Auckland. As such, I believe it would be helpful if we address some of the comments over here.

Starwood has 13 operating hotels in the Pacific (Oceania) region representing the Sheraton, Westin, Four Points by Sheraton and Le Meridien brands.

This is a key region for the company as it has a strong base of high quality hotels, talented manpower and a robust economy supporting business and leisure travel.

Starwood has two hotels under development in the Pacific region: Sheraton Melbourne Hotel and Sheraton New Caledonia Bourail Resort & Spa, both scheduled to open in 2013.

Starwood did not renew the management agreement in 2010 for Sheraton Perth Hotel due to the hotel owners’ plan to re-brand the hotel under its own hotel brand.

Starwood had to cease management of The Westin Auckland Lighter Quay as it could not continue operations in accordance to standards due to the on-going dispute between the receivership and owners of certain rooms at the hotel.

Starwood Hotels & Resorts will continue to explore hotel development opportunities in the Pacific region so as to provide more accommodation choices to guests.
