We're planning a holiday of around ten days, from about 5th December.

I want to go somewhere warm, but not unbelievably hot/humid. We really just want to relax, laze around a pool, etc. It needs to be nice - 4/5 star.

we want to fly overseas, because I'll be platinum by then and would like to check out the F lounge. and we don't want to fly more than about 16 hours tops, as I've flown so much for work this year that I really don't want to spent too much longer inside a plane :-)

any suggestions? My first thought was the Maldives - but getting there on oneworld airlines involves about 24 hours (the quick way is via KUL, but oneworld doesn't fly there direct so I'm going to wait until Malaysia Air is officially part of the alliance and go then).

next thought was jetstar star class to coughet - it goes via SIN. the SIN - coughet bit doesn't have a star class cabin, so I'm not sure how that affects lounge access in SIN - can anyone shed any light on that? (I've tried the qantas website and searching the forum, but I can't find an answer)

any suggestions about destination and how to get there gratefully accepted.

cheers
rebekka

Honolulu is the go with QF or JQ, wife and I are going in early Nov, JQ in J for $2150 each, price up since tho, Q had Y inc. accom. at Hilton Hawaiian Village for $2300 thereabouts last week, but JQ in J of course get full status points too.

Sadly, QF flights to Honolulu actually seem to be with JQ, and JQ have no return flights available in December at all!

good suggestion though, thank you :-)

Try Fiji, you can do the FLounge from Syd or Mel, it's cheap and close and warm.Personally I like the InterCon, away from the crowds in Nadi but not a long hike

Your platinum status will get you access to the SIN lounge, irrespective of which cabin you are flying on Jetstar - or Jetstar Asia so this will not be an issue. In fact Star Class as such no longer exists on Jetstar - it is now officially "business class" and has two options - one with points/lounge, one without, and the "with" version is quite a bit more expensive. (but the lounge bit is irrelevant as you are platinum).

Thanks Sprucegoose, wet season though, yeah? Humid? Not loving the thought of that! Or is it not that hot/humid?

and thanks dajop for answering the lounge access question!

Bay of Islands in New Zealand can be great that time of year. A very scenic spot with lazy summer evenings. Also some important historic places in New Zealand's history. Warm but not too hot.

I quite like Indonesia has a holiday destination. Most Australians don't seem to make it much further than Bali. But there are some really fantastic spots and it can work out very good value.

I quite like Flores and some of the surrounding Islands. You can take Jetstar to Denparsar then take a local airline for the short hop to Flores. You can charter a boat for a private tour (great value even for 1 or 2 people) of the local islands. Go snorkling with tropical fish and whale sharks. Visit Komodo and see the dragons.

Java is quite amazing. You can fly to Jakarta with Qantas. Then catch a local flight or train to Yogyakarta. Explore the ancient temples, the palace and old fort in the city. Then relax in some of the great spas.

Any reason BKK isn't on your horizon? Direct flight from MEL and you get to use the F Lounge there which is awesome.

However, I suggest you make your booking soon, it is holiday season and it will probably be heavily booked in the near future if not now.

How about Langkawi? Can use CX to get there via HKG or use QF/BA to SIN and a cheap LCC from there. Will be a nice destination option when MH joins OneWorld.

Wet season is August-October, so should be good weather in December. Its technically winter, so not quite so hot and humid as it would be in say July.

For my 2c, I give you CPT, via JNB.

However, if it was for myself, being a little more adventurous, I'd do MPM via HLA ;)
All redeemable on One World.
