Looking for something to do over the very slow period 25 Dec - 8th Jan.
Probably waiting til next year before doing a big DONE trip.
Anyway know of any really nice resorts a short hop from somewhere easy to get to like SIN?
Kota Kinabalu, somewhere in coughet that time of year?
SQ don't have premium economy MEL-SIN do they? Worth paying for Y+ on QF for the short flight to SIN?

I'd probably go for Penang over coughet, there are some great hotels there and you can explore the colonial past on the days you feel like doing something. I really feel coughet is past its prime. Another option would be to go for something in Indonesia, but logistically a bit trickier.

Thanks..which hotel I'm penang do you recommend?
Have to say, I am a bit out of date so some may have faded and others may have improved. I wouldn't stay in Georgetown itself, that's a short taxi ride. The main hotel strip is Batu Ferringhi. There can be a lot of families, so I normally try and pick as enclosed a hotel as I can. The Rasa Sayang and the Parkroyal are my favourites round here. The bunch of hotels also gives you the option to eat elsewhere and there are plenty of local places. (I always have bah kut teh in Penang).

The Mutiara is another option I liked. It is further away though and you are stuck there unless you make the special trip. Of course, that means it is quieter. The restaurants are fine (including a good Italian), but eating is a big part of my holidays and I needed a bit more variety.

I guess I suggested Penanag because I like places with a bit of life and lots of food :-) I'm sure there are lots of smaller Thai islands though for the beachfront laid-back thing.
