OK...bought some (OK the maximum:mrgreen:) pts with this promo but need another one so I can buy a few more at a cheaper rate for an F award. Based on past promos, when should I expect to see another bonus promo?

I can only go on my single experience. Bought double bonus miles end of last year and waited till end of Feb and chickened out and bought full price miles for March/April trip. Next 75% bonus was in April if memory serves me well. Still First to UK for $3,500 is still very ok.

I'm looking at flying First class Star Alliance Perth to New York return next year and it looks like I may fly Lufthansa over the Atlantic. I looked at their website last night and their A380 has seats rather than the cabins Singapore Airlines use. Does that mean I could fly A380?

Last I heard LH was restricting A380 seats to their own flyers only.

The LH A380 F seats are similar to the LX new style. When the divider walls are up, it makes it feel like a "cabin", except no door.

LH are restricting their A380 F to their own Senators and HON Circle members, however some have reported availability and others are gambling on an equipment switch. Either way, if you find one and the US agent allows you to take it, jump for it! (Although, be prepared for the seat to be possibly rebooked later, but a chance is better than none at all!)

I would not count on LH F transatlantic. There are many reports of people having problems booking them with US miles.

After the ease of my first Dividend Miles trip to Europe I'm feeling quite surprised about the increase in difficulty about getting over the Atlantic. I'm planning First class Perth to New York next May. Looks like getting to Europe or west coast USA will be ok with good old Thai so can anyone suggest carriers/routes over the Atlantic or trans USA?

Thanks Paul

Paul, out of LAX you can go AA to Phoenix and BA to LHR if you have QF points in First 138,000 points the last time I looked and good availability other than a few days near the 4th July holiday.

Thanks but this will be all US Dividend Miles

For a limited time (5 to 31 July 2011) "Share Miles and Give 50% More"

US Airways | Buy, share or gift miles

So its a decent deal for those who bought 50K + 50K bonus last month, and need the final lot (20/50 C/F miles to EUR) to book their flights. (Rough calculations means you will save around 25% on the normal cost of purchasing points.)

Can someone please give me a quick rundown on how the sharing of miles work, I don't think I totally understand the concept. I have two accounts with 100,000 miles in each, so if I were to make these 120,000 miles what would the process/cost be through sharing? Thanks

Sharing miles is pretty easy and you end up with miles that cost .02 US Cents per mile rather than 0.275CPM.

Login to USAirways. Look for the Dividend Miles tab and under that will be Buy, Gift and Share miles. Simply follow the prompts from there.

Share miles cost 1 cent per mile. If you need an additional 20,000 miles then you will need to account for the miles you are also sending out of the account.

So:
You start with 100,000
You share 40,000 for $400 to your partner leaving you with 60,000
The miles are given a 50% bonus turning the 40,000 into 60,000
Add the new 60,000 to the old 60,000 and you have 120,000.

Maybe I am missing something here, but how is this different from 'Gifting Miles' when the miles still leave your account, so they aren't actually 'shared' among the two accounts?

Gifting is just buying for another person. No bonus under the current promo.

You are sharing, just two way.

I will have to look into this promo a bit more.

Like the other poster I have two accounts with 100k each

Now just need to work out how much F to europe will cost all up...

I have 2 accounts with 100K each. I want to end up with 150K in each account. What do I do?

sharing won't work for you.

Account A has 100,000, shares 50, that leaves account A with only 50,000 miles.

Account B now has 175000 miles.

Account B can only share back 25,000 miles (because you want it to have 150). 25000 miles nets you 37500.

So account A would only have 50+37500 = 87500.

edited to add that there are other variations, you could just share the number of miles from A to B to get B to 150 (with no share back).

But regardless A will still have a shortfall.

I think FT has worked out that the cost per mile under this promo is about 2c (given you had to buy the miles in the first place). This compares to 2.75c (before all taxes and charges) for just buying the miles outright.

Factor any cc points earnings (or not) and foreign exchange rates (or not) into the above deal.
