My Story with Singapore Airlines

Hey Al, write it off to experience mate. The Chinese say if you want revenge dig two graves. Get on with your holiday mate.Happy Landings.

Thank-you; no revenge mate but will do whatever I can when I get back for god and country with the guidance of the office of my MP who has already got involved in this regard. Having no real competition and no real consumer protection laws in this area is not a healthy combination. My family and I learnt a very valuable lesson from this experience, which is: We will never fly Singapore Airlines again.

Someone jabs their finger in your face and your MP is getting involved?

The MP is an interesting addition to your coughnal........agree if you don't like them don't give them your money. They probably don't want you to fly them again either!!

Not at all. It is the total disregard of customers' complaints. It is the despotic attitude of some who may take advantage of no real competition and no real consumer protection laws.

Agree; so why wouldn't they just refund my ticket and do the right thing instead of ignoring customers' complaints?

Whose complaints? Yours? How long have they had to respond before this becomes a diplomatic incident?

Personally unless they are selling Australians into slavery I don't think MPs have any business interfering.

Perhaps they are selling it to the Airliners :D

I learnt a very valuable lesson from this experience, which is: We will never fly Singapore Airlines again.

I think another lesson is to not kick up a stink before you get on the flight. If you didn't go back then they would have had no reason to cancel. This is not a justification of the poor treatment, just a pragmatic approach to not let that person wreck your travel.

Agree, but at this stage my travel was already wrecked. I think things happened for a reason and whatever the reason was or is, things happened for the best.

For all I know you may have travelled more than me, but things can get a lot worse than that from time to time.

Totally agree that things happen for a reason and to this day I still regret not saying something to an extremely rude airline employee 10 years ago. But if you didn't go back......

What makes the two of you think things happen for a reason? Just asking.

Having worked and lived in Europe, America, Africa, Asia and the Middle East, after years of travel, I never seen such rudeness in the past. But I am sure there would always be worse stories.

:D 10 years ago! I am grateful then I made the effort to lodge my complaint, and thanks to this discussion board, in 10 years time, I don't think I will remember this unfortunate incident but I would be still not flying Singapore Airlines :D

Sorry not to sound sympathetic however this sounds very strange. These kind of arguments/altercations between travellers and airport staff happen every day, at every airport around the world. I travel, say, 20+ times a year all over the world and I either experience or witness similar incidents to your's multiple times each trip. You just have to watch one of those UK airline shows on TV to see people get into screaming matches with each other.

To want to cancel your trip and want to visit a GP because of this sounds nothing short of bizarre to me. You are either extremely mentally fragile or some key detail of this story is missing.

Just to be clear.

You arrive at check in with overweight bags an hour before departure at 6.40 am?
Did you realise Singapore require you to check in with bags 2.5 hours before departure?

Once checked in you sit down and wait for your wife to go back to the car park. (How long did this take?)

At 7.00am (now 40 mins before departure and Singapore's closing time for flights) you go back to the desk and enquire about cancelling, is that right?

Did you realise the flight would have been closed at this stage? Di they tell you the flight was closed?

Now the bit I am not sure of ,you variously say "to my surprise", "whilst discussing my bags suddenly appeared" and " i heard my luggage on standby and located and brought to the counter in a minute or two" in relation to the bags, which was it exactly?

At 7.03 am (37 mins before the flight) your tags were removed.

The timing you set out above suggests to me you were cutting things very fine but putting that to one side what I dont get is why did the bags appear suddenly if you hadn't indicated you didn't want to fly? Why were they located?

Also you said the supervisor planned the situation, how could he anticipate your decision to enquire about cancellation? Once tagged and you had your BP what could he have done to anticipate your decision?

I find this very confusing.
