BRISBANE'S domestic airport terminal was evacuated this morning following a security screening equipment failure.
Brisbane Airport Corporation spokeswoman Rebecca Masci said an error in a machine at the security checkpoint in the domestic terminal was discovered about 11.15am.
She said because it was unclear as to how long the error had existed for the decision was made to evacuate the 1500 people from the terminal and to re-screen everyone.
"For safety reasons we decided to evacuate everyone out and re-screen them all again," she said.
"We managed to get everyone out of the terminal in about 30 minutes and as of this moment, there should only be about a 45 minute delay for aircrafts."
Ms Masci said there was no security breach by any passenger.
She said the BAC wanted to apologise for the inconvenience caused for passengers.
"We're incredibly apologetic and sorry and we ask passengers to bear with us," she said.
All domestic flights from every airline have been affected.
The cause of the machine's error is under investigation.
In the end we were only held on board for 15 minutes, but when we emerged to claim our bags the queue for rescreening seemed to stretch the length of the terminal. Certainly better to be arriving rather than leaving. How is has it panned out for you? I found this article on the Curious Mail website:
