I am booking the above flights in October 2011.
Can anyone who knows the route tell me whether the 4 class aircraft config used is 32 y+ seats and has row 40 as the first row of Y (version 1 according to seat guru) or 40 Y+ with 56 as first Y row?
We are traveling with baby G and if it is the former config I will probably opt to save a few grand and book Y in row 40 rather than Y+.
Any other info or tips about the route would be much appreciated - thanks

According to EF, QF63 on 11th October has 32 Y+ seats , and Row 40 is the first row in Y.

Came in from Joburg yesterday on QF64, we were in row 38 premium economy, the row behind us 39 was the last row of PE.

The flight is generally operated by the 32Y+ config aircraft, and I believe that is how it is sold. It can, however, be substituted for the 40Y+ aircraft.

QF63 on 11 June for example was a 40Y+ config, but on 13 June it was a 32Y+.

Thanks for the responses. Travel dates are SYD - JNB on 6/10 and JNB -SYD on 23/10. As October is a peak time does that make it more likely it will be the 40 Y+ or 32 Y+ config?

I'm also happy to be corrected on my logic - which is that according to Seat Guru row 40 in the 32 Y+ config is a "good seat" but bulkhead rows 51 & 52 on the 40Y+ config show as "having drawbacks".
We'll apply for points upgrade to J, but we have flown in the Y+ bulkhead seats with baby in the 32 seat config before (34 F&G) and I thought it was a lousy seat - not worth 35,000 points to upgrade. 34 D&E looked slightly better - but if 40 is a great Y seat, still probably not worth 35 k points to change?

Can't allow for a/c subs, but your flights currently show as 32 Y+ seats. :)

The only reason it would change from the 32Y+ config would be a last minute substitution.

I personally don't think Seat Guru offers terribly good recommendations as to what is good and what is bad. There seems to be a blanket 'drawbacks' on many bulkhead seats, simply because they have tray tables that come out of the armrest etc. One of the Y+ configs (can't remember which) has an enormous amount of space at one of the bulkheads. More space in those seats than Business class!
