Qantas FF and Woolworths create new loyalty alliance

I think there might be greater importance placed on the activation of the offer rather than actually using the offer (which is a bit odd). Quite a few times this year I activated the woolies liquor offer, but then didn't actually make a purchase, however each week the offers kept coming. The first time I didn't activate it seemed to be the trigger to the offers stopping. I wonder how long my punishment will last for :D

After not getting any for aeons, I finally got one a few weeks back, which I was even able to use. The next week I also got one and activated it, but was away so not able to use it at Woolies. Since then, back to nada.

Not definitive, but it doesn't seem like activation achieves better results than usage.

I guess their real goal is to (1) know you are still alive and receiving their targeted emails (2) Get you into the store to buy the target item (3) hope you buy something else or many other items while you are there.

The above will create a loyal audience from 2am every Monday morning. I myself never buy booze on the weekend, since I'm a 8/10 chance of getting a bonus email on the Monday morning. So basically Woolworths have "trained" me to the way they want me to shop

it is not random, if it was then there would not be people getting them 22 weeks out of 25, likewise there would not be people getting zero.

If you think it is totally random, then you think the barcode in your pocket, and the encrypted code on the offer activation link is all just mumbo-jumbo...?
I did say there may be some triggers involved but in the main this would be random.

You do realise that a random number generator can generate the same number over and over and it would still be random?

As for smarts in promotions, mailouts, whatever you want to call them, are not that smart. I have worked in IT for a long long time and this area is still very primitive.

Also take note that "I" purchase almost everything from Woolworths on a weekly basis and I have only been targetted 3-4 times. If the program was as smart as you say then I would be getting more promotions to buy toilet paper, cuddly, softly, drive, deli items, fresh fruit, meat, yoghurt, alcohol, chocolates, soups, vegetables, frozen food, cheese etc etc. It makes no sense that someone receives an offer almost every week and I get 3-4 in all that time. It is random.

Seriously, big brother knows more about you than you think and those guy's don't work to a random plan...!
Big brother knows about me what I want him to know.

Unless I am barcoded or tagged then Big Brother really has no idea about me as my preferred method of payment is cash. I use a credit card sparingly and do not believe in using a savings account to purchase things. In fact I do not have any accounts that have card access.

And I will continue this way for the rest of my life even when DNA or skin grafts will be the preferred method of payment....

Well I am coming up to my 9 month anniversary with no offers.
The weird thing is just before offers dried up I used 1 promotion 8 times in a day at 8 different BWS.So using the promotions is not the only factor in getting more offers.

Oh and I don't think I received any offers again this week unless I deleted them with the spam....

The thing is I don't believe it is random either, otherwise it would be unlikely for those people to have gotten them as consistently as they have, when others have been so rare/sporadic. As you mention working in IT with randomness, you would appreciate how unlikely it is to also get a repeated pattern occuring, as a number of people have.

Personally, I'm just viewing it as defective. ;)

FINALLY got one! Came through this morning - 30% off all red wine and double points at Woolies liquor. Awesome timing as my cellar has taken a bit of a hit over the last few weeks.

Mrs shintaro also got this one this morning, was quite surprised to see this in the inbox on a Wednesday morning.

For a minute there I thought it was Monday again...

Guess I have to buy another case of 707...!

Off topic but has anyone else noticed that in the last few weeks the Woolworths grocery specials have gone from starting Monday and ending Sunday to starting Wednesday and ending Tuesday?.
Interesting strategy change.
Cheers

I think that's the cycle it seems to follow over here (at Sainsbury's anyway).

You could say this is off-topic. But I recieved a free sample for Milo in the post today. With 50% off if I purchase before the end of the week.

Thanks for sending me a sample of Milo, I've never tried it before. ;)

Does anyone have trouble getting points instead of discount on fuel? I'll selected to earn points numerous times and just logged in and it appears that when I scanned my card the other day I got a 2c discount.

ISTR Woolworths have moved to Wed-Tues to match Coles, who originally did it to make the specials more attractive, with less time for others to match them, and realising most people did their shopping on weekends, so the specials are still "fresh" by the weekend.

I have switched between the two without any major problems.

My problem is that last week I got sent the liquor promotion (i.e buy x get y points or z fuel). I chose the fuel, and it is still only showing up as 4c/l on my account. I will be spewing if I only get 4c/l off instead of my supposed 10c/l tonight when I go to fill up

I often find with products on special is that after the first day or two the stock is depleted and you're unable to get them, so still no good for the weekends anyway...:!:

The extra discount promo gives you two dockets, one for the initial shop that appears instantly and one a bit later in the following week, if you read the T&Cs is states that.

Which is correct: -
Does the 4 cent voucher change to a 10 cent voucher...?
Do you get a "normal" 4 cent voucher then an additional 10 cent voucher (effectively two fuel offers...?)
Do you get a "normal" 4 cent voucher plus a 6 cent voucher to give a total of 10 cents off in vouchers (this would suck 100% since you never get 10 cents off)

Just curious here

That is more my question, as I have to fill up tonight, and that is the only one remaining (still showing 4c/l).

Its an extra voucher, as you could have multiple transactions to hit the $ amount to trigger the voucher.
