Tiger posts loss

Tiger Airways posted an operating loss in Australia of S$9 million in the 12 months to March 31 compared to a loss of S$600,000 in the previous 12 months. The carrier said it will focus on becoming profitable in Australia rather than expanding its operation

9 million S$ loss...

They have posted a loss but in the scheme of things how did that $9 million translate in terms of the impact to QF/JQs bottom line domestically - that would be a most interesting figure to know.

Certainly true that Tiger made a $9 million loss in Australia but Plane Talking actually has a bit more detail in it's reporting of this story.
Tiger freezes Australia capacity, triples profits in Asia, and becomes an endangered species in the Philippines | Plane Talking
Tiger Airways has dropped its expansion plans in Australia but reported a near trebling of profit before tax as a group to $SIN 57 million in its financial year to March 31, compared to $ 19.9 million* in the previous year.
It also announced a provisional agreement (or the signing of a term sheet) to take a 33 percent stake in Indonesia carrier Mandala Airlines which is being restructured under that country’s insolvency laws following its decision to cease flying earlier this year.
However that agreement was overshadowed, almost to the minute it was announced, by the release of an order by the Philippines aviation regulator, the Civil Aeronautics Board suspending the marketing deal between Tiger and a small domestic carrier SEAir.
In short, a big night for Tiger, one way or the other.
The president and group CEO of Tiger, Tony Davis said Tiger Airways Australia “experienced a challenging year and as a consequence seat capacity will now be kept in line with the previous year. This strategy will simplify our domestic Australian operations and focus the business on profitable routes to generate improved returns from our Australian business.”

I decided to go to Brisbane in June and thought I would try Tiger. Fare: zero dollars and taxes $25.17. No wonder they posted a loss.

While it’s nice to have them offering fares so low that it keeps that clientele off regular services, provides a good TV show to laugh at and provides ample price beats… I’d have thought making a profit by raising their fares even slightly would be a much smarter move.

How long did Pacific Blue stick it out as a domestic service in New Zealand before calling it quits? And how much did they lose…?

The floods/cyclone cost Tiger $15m, and considering alot of their capacity is QLD based this is no surprise.

Sunstar320, you certainly have a healthy interest in Tiger. (Based on my recollection of many of your previous postings)

I'm sure you've been asked before - do you have an association with them? :-|

I have no sympathy TT. They're a cough airline that provides cough service. I've never seen an airline score so many 0/10 and 1/10 on Skytrax. It's disgraceful!
