Those fire fighters at SIN are seeing a lot of action!

Is the reliability of the Rolls Royce engines being questioned?

Appears that may be the case,Rolls Royce have launched their own inquiry.
BBC News - Rolls-Royce to investigate Singapore emergency landing
Rolls-Royce has launched an investigation after a plane carrying 136 people had to make an emergency landing in Singapore.
The Cathay Pacific Airbus A330-300 experienced problems in one of its two Rolls-Royce engines shortly after taking off for Jakarta.
The plane landed safely on Monday without injuries.

It's funny how in the not-to-distant-past, people would align their aircraft choice by brand - Airbus or Boeing.
These days it seems more prudent to differentiate by engine supplier - Rolls Royce or GE Pratt and Whitney.

There are certain airlines that have more than one engine type on the same type of plane. QF and their 767's is one example

"If it's not Boeing, I'm not going" replaced by "Not Rolls Royce, if I have any choice" perhaps? ;)

Very lightly loaded too for an A330.

Lots of earlier flights to Jakarta to choose from then Cathay CX715 which departs Singapore at 0045.

Saying that myself and the wife are booked CGK/BKK via SIN on Cathay later next month. Timings aren't good but the price is, worked out at around $650 AUD return for two.

Cue the news.com story blaming QF for the problem, because cleaned the aircraft four weeks ago when it was in Australia.

Is that a union I hear? :p

They wouldn't stoop that low... They'd just remind you that both CX and QF is part of One World.

They'd also write it in a confusing way so that you're not sure which carrier actually had the fault, and finally they'd remind you about every time QF has had an incident over the last year, including this one time when they nearly ran out of loo paper.
