Air Niugini has revamped its website in the last couple of days.

Some pics of the (2) Q400s on order which the website implies have already been delivered. They prevously announced they are supposed to arrive in July ... the days are running out!!

Also a reference to the second 767, again leased from Icelandair, due to arrive "in a week's time" ... well if they announced this on 15 July, it should turn up by Thursday. But then the current schedule runs till end October and doesn't refer to it...

Air Niugini Limited

Naturally there's references to the loyalty program, first launched in August last year, and then launched a couple more times since. Still waiting for my card.....

But no references to their 787, ordered in December 2007.

All very curious. But then maybe a website called airniugini.sitetest.us isn't supposed to be live at all!!

Re: Air Niugini second 767 has arrived

Well the second 767 has arrived in POM. Another veteran of Icelandair, so presumably the same warnings about smoking in the toilets violating Icelandic law will appear. There are some pics of the aircraft's arrival (and Air Niugini's slightly revised livery) here: P2-PXV Boeing 767 341ER

Will be interesting to see how long it parks in POM before it is pressed into service, and where they will send it. Feel free to speculate! I was mulling over the possibility they'd operate it from POM to NAN to connect direct with FJ to the US - there is a lot of traffic from the US to POM generated by the two LNG projects ramping up and much more predicted. On Fridays and Mondays they could probably also justify a 767 to both BNE and SYD.

The first of the new Air Niugini Q400s has arrived also, although it appears to have departed from POM already, and there were 4 F100s lounging round the airport this week, more than usual, so it may have entered service already.

You'll find (mostly promo) pics of the PX Q400 here
P2-PXU Q400 NextGen

When I flew in from CNS on Monay morning the new 767 was parked on the apron. There is no reference to routings for either of these aircraft in PX's current timetable, which runs till the end of October. That would be a long time to park the 767.

Incidentally the flight from CNS, previously close to full, had about 34% loading. QF has stolen a lot of their business.

The crash 8 -400 operated commenced ops into CNS Aug 3 while the new 767 operated to BNE same day.

I notice on PX's latest timetable the 757 has been replaced with another 767. Does anyone know its lineage/specs and whether or not it's been delivered yet? I heard a rumour it'd been delayed and haven't seen the usual overblown delivery ceremony photos on their website yet :D.

Interested to know what to expect for my SYD-POM next Monday.

I think you will find that it was actually a 39.7% loading, but that would depend if you were including cargo.

The F100s to CNS I've been on lately have been standing room only - full of Japanese tourists. Now I make sure the travel agent gets me on the Qantaslink Q400 with far more room to spread out.

Re: Air Niugini third 767

Maybe more PAX on morning flights out of POM, which would connect with PX ex NRT - two days a week. Have heard that PX does very competitive thru fares from NRT to Aust.

My loading number was based on actually counting the PAX on the flight I referred to. i might have missed someone. This was on the early morning flight out of CNS. PX have aped the QF schedule (but not the fares) on the Fri PM and Mon AM CNS-POM commute flights now so I won't bother catching it again. Its only advantage, now gone, was 1hr 20 mins extra sleep.

Other main changes of the new schedule are 4 flights to SIN and 3 to MNL weekly (up from 2 to each) and cessation of flight

Incidentally Air Niugini has now taken delivery of its third 767, this one to replace its 757, and also its third Q400. I think this might mean that noone will be operating scheduled 757 flights into BNE anymore? Here's a pic, sorry re quality

I always get this flight too but noted they have been filling up lately (but still able to get 2 seats)

Re: Air Niugini third 767

Just in case anyone cares, a pic of the 3rd 767, P2-PXW, at POM international this afternoon.

I'm told it came from Icelandair, like the first 767. I mentioned earlier the second 767 (which this pic was taken from) was also going to come from Icelandair, but the seat belts and old IFE logos indicate it came from Varig via Etihad!

They have a nice IFE magazine now listing the movies on each flight. And describing the audio channels. Very flash. The service, of course, is still vintage New Guinea
