Hey Everyone,

The Mrs and I have a rare 5 days off at the same time over this coming Easter, and plan to have a mini break. Having recently been on our (expensive) honeymoon, the purse strings are a little tighter and we had thought we might go on a driving holiday, but that's clearly not in AFF spirit!

Was wondering anyone here has good suggestions as to Easter mini break options!

We're based in MEL, have Fri 22nd Apr - Tue 26th Apr off inclusive, I'd say the maximum budget is up to $2k, no useful FF status to speak of, and have traveled fairly extensively domestically and internationally in the past. Let the good times roll.

*Discalimer - I will clearly claim any good ideas here as my own when proposing them to the mrs.

Without knowing hobbies and interests, what about a few days in Tassie, always nice. (and not to far from you)

Our main shared hobbies include (first and foremost) eating, drinking, mild exercise like walking or cycling, movies, exploring places we haven't been before, reading.

Tassie isn't the worst option in my book, but the mrs will never go for it - we visited in late 2009 for a week which was nice, but she wasn't 'taken' by it and now has a 'been there, done that' attitude towards the small island across Bass straight.

Thredbo, take the Crackenback Chair lift and walk to the top of Australia. :D

McLaren Vale? Close to MEL, Good eating and drinking and there are plenty of good little walks and cycling trails around. Also close to Victor Harbor and Kangaroo Island which have lots of little places to explore and good coastal scenery.

Help out our NZ cousins and head over to NZ.

Fly into Wellington, take the ferry to Picton, bus to Blenheim and stay at the Chateau Marlborough.

Eat drink and be merry.

King Island would be worth looking at given your interests I would have thought.

I tend to try and keep things simple when it comes to Easter which is the busiest time of the year in terms of flying, given its a short break the last thing you need is a few extra days to recover form travel stress.

Another option is being a tourist in your home CBD, hotels tend to be cheap over Easter and you can get away from the norm whilst not getting too far away, nothing like being able to cast away those day chores and just focus on your partner, let someone else do the cleaning and cooking and leaving the DND sign on the door for pure privacy.
