My pet peeve... sticking your feet up!

In reply to the OP, I don’t think I’d ever stick my feet up above horizontal, but quite often have my feet against the bulkhead at a small angle when stretching out.

How about crossing your legs and that way one foot is in the air with no pressure on it?

Putting your feet up on a bulkhead still requires some pressure so are you actually resting your feet?

Not only is it restful, but I'd suggest keeping your legs slightly elevated reduces the risks of DVT - and certainly stops my feet from swelling. Crossing my legs, on the other hand, rapidly results in pins and needles in one foot, and is not comfortable for me at all.

Thanks for the helpful suggestion.

So you won't be offended if the person next to you picks their nose, or scratches their head and then shakes their hair, or clips their finger nails, or cleans their ears, or smells? After all you can just as easily put on an eyemask or block your nose. ;)

If the person next to me picks my nose, well, it's a little gross, but yes, I would just try not to look at them. After all, it does not actually physically affect me. If they shake their hair, or clip their nails, and stuff lands on me, then that definitely affects me and so is not analagous to putting your feet up on a bulkhead. Nor is smelling bad - that has a definitely physical effect on the people around you, and no, you cannot "just as easily" block your nose - breathing through your mouth for 12+ hours on a flight, and the resulting dehydration? That is not the same thing at all as not liking how something looks. Once again, it is like someone wearing unflattering skin tight pants, or painting their house a colour you don't like - you might think it is in bad taste, but it actually doesn't affect you in the slightest, so you should really just get over it.

Your response should be proportional. Breaking legs for a touch up is a disproportionate response.

Fine, in which case I would more than likely bat your feet away, either using my hands (and then washing them) or perhaps a fork or knife (now metal knives have a good use after the re-introduction).

Refer to my photo. If your elbow is that far behind your back I salute your double jointed limbs. :p

And I'd say you'd be fine.

It is not completely unheard of, however, that people tend to inch a bit further than what you have photographed.

this thread makes for amusing but faintly disturbing reading..

i love flying but when you fly
you in a lump of precious metal that spews poison to the upper atmosphere - who knows the long term damage that will be done??
you're soaking up the high doses of radiation up there,
the cost of your ticket is more than most citizens on earth earn in year,
the food you love to hate would be a godsend for said people,
through work , or holidays that cramped space and the sleep deprivation is a choice we make- when many can't even choose a vote

clean feet on bulkheads??? pfttt
