Successful crash landing in Blenheim

The headline was so good, I just had to use it!

An Air New Zealand Dash 8 aircraft has made a successful crash landing at Blenheim airport.


Forty-one passengers and three crew were on board as the airliner skidded down the runway on its nose, after the front landing gear failed to lower.

Landing Gear issues and Crash 8s are becoming more of an issue, thankfully none have been as bad as the Ansett fatal accident in NZ but with only 1000 aircraft, 31 significant incidents (excluding a couple of QF gear issues) and 16 hull losses is something of a concern.

And this was the second crash 8 to crash(reporters terminology) at Blenheim in 5 months with the front wheels not coming down.

Qantas has quite a fleet of these, so there must be some confidence in the metal?

The next headline will be something along the lines of...."Don't risk your life on a QF Dash-8..."
