2 UA B747s Landing @ SYD

Any theories on why there might be 2 UA jumbos landing at SYd today - 1 after the other at about 7:40am?

Perhaps Oprah needed some more kaftans?

Yep,if I remember correctly one flight is UA 839 and the other is UA 863.

At the moment there is a second daily LAX-SYD-LAX service, to cope with the increased silly-season traffic.

One will head down to MEL and back this morning as well.

According to FlightStats, today:

• UA827 from LAX arrived at 6:13am
• UA839 from LAX arrived at 7:49am
• UA863 from SFO arrived at 7:51am
• UA840 from MEL schedld at 2:25pm

The two landing close together were the SFO and LAX services, the extra arrived just after curfew:

I did think it might be a service either from a different origin or destination but lined up after each other? I thought I was seeing things lol

Surprising they would need an extra service I thought QF had the AU departing market pretty much sewn up and the demand for US travellers coming here was down due to the dollar?

Air fares are quite cheap ex USA to Oz at the moment; ~USD850 fares are common.

I think you would be surprised to learn (a) just how Americans live in, or visit, Australia and (b) how many of those Americans will always fly an American airline without exception if an American carrier flies to where they want to go.

So true! Love it.

As such I am mighty proud to say I am flying J UA to SFO later this month though. I thought I would see what their new international J product is like. At least it is a flat bed...and only 70K krisflyer pts (much less than the amt of qantas pts for a 160 degree slanting bed!)

Actually I am surprised at how many Americans know and love Qantas. Mainly because "Qantas never crashes". Whenever I am over there they all want to know if I flew Qantas and say they will fly Qantas when they come to Australia (whether or not that translates into actual tickets I have no idea).

Let's not forget that Qantas has significantly more seats Aus-USA than any other airline.
