Could someone just keep a fricken aircraft in the air for a full length flight for once?

More stories like this will evoke more comparisons to QF who  have ordered the obviously faulty 787!!!

If the plane continued it’s approach after the pilot noticed smoke, then it was hardly an emergency landing. :p

You would want to be careful making statements like that. Who knows what nonews troll could be lurking here.

The last thing we would want is comments about the faulty 787 sourced by expert comments on AFF:D

If the pilot declared an emergency or PAN then its an emergency landing and the aircraft is placed under an ALERFA or DETRESFA with appropriate activation of emergency services on and outside the airport, hardly Razz material. Smoke onboard an aircraft inflight more often than not has a bad outcome.

And I assume there were no FAs on board to burn the toast ;)

Of course, I was just pointing out the sensationalism in the story, suggesting they immediately landed anywhere they could, when in fact they were already on approach :p

An emergency is an emergency, I understand that.

Isnt the point of test flights to find problems before the aircraft goes into service?

How dare you put reason into a story with limitless potentional for sensationalising... :D

I think I am missing the sensationalism in the story. Seems a relatively matter of fact piece

I think it is sensational that this story even made the news. Shock horror - machine under going tests had problems and needed to be fixed...

If this was the first passenger/commercial flight this would be a different ball game.

Maybe the smoke is an "enhancement" feature.

I note that the ABC was keen to mention that the A/C has RR engines.

Because I can’t see a specific thread for RR, I wanted to mention I heard on the news this afternoon that RR had won a contract to supply engines to Chinese planes. Completely not related to this, but dunno where it belongs, other than it’s RR.

Bundy Bear and I walked on a 787 just last week.

But we walked on ZA-003, so we didn't do nothin'. :p :)

I make this post recognising that some will see it as sensationalism. For those not interested in the progress of 787 testing stop now :)

1) Flight testing of the 787 has been suspended, and the planes have been switched to ground testing

2) Apparently an electrical control panel in the rear of the plane needs to be replaced.

IMHO that is not sensationalism.

That is important information and unfortunate for Boeing.
