I have some time in December and need to finish a DONE4 in AKL. So I have SYD-BNE-AKL on that ticket. I was thinking that was not so smart (no Flounge) and was wondering whether it was worth changing to say SYD-MEL-AKL. Any opinions?

Now I notice that on most dates in DEC I can go AKL-LAN in J for approx $5300 AUD return seems like a good deal?

A possible YUPP is LAX-ORD-TPA and ret for $1010 AUD and 420SC's anyone prepared to share a better one out of LAX in December?

The long and the short of it is using the above and an LAN AKL-SYD-AKL ticket at the end I can go a long way to renewing WP for about $6600 - any feedback?

Definitely worth the switch to MEL for F lounge. The BNE lounge is rubbish. Do the flight timings work though?

You can buy the LAN J AKL-SYD one way easily enough (why do you need AKL-SYD-AKL unless connecting to another DONE or to an AKL-LAX flight?). There's also the bonus of paying in NZ roubles. The OMG O'clock departure ex-AKL isnt a winner though.......

Not sure what you mean AKL-LAN @ $5300 though - perhaps clarify (did you mean AKL-SYD-AKL on LAN for $530)?

So sorry AKL-LAX-AKL , my bad.

The other benefit is that TPA has a nice Marriott in the airport itself so you can overnight without the need for shuttle buses. Note that security at TPA is very slow so be sure to allow 15 minutes to clear security before boarding.

Just to update decided on a different routing ex LAS which gets me 600 SCs for $880. All booked and to be done on dec 12.

That's exceptional value! What routing did you end up booking?

I also would be very interested to know this (I got 1020 for around $1900 and I thought that was good!).

If you don't want to share it too publicly, could you possibly send it to me via private message? :)

Yes please!! Could you please PM me as well.

I need to book one in the next few days for December.

Drewbles, your $1900 routing, would you mind sending me your final routing what it worked out to be?

Thanks in advance guys :)

a simple check on farecompare brings up LAS/SJU at about that price. nice one

Maybe I'm blind. Or maybe I can't drive farecompare very well, but I don't see it..??
Discounted First Class and Flyer Talk Fares - LAS

After the search completes:
  • Click the
    more.gif
    beside "Carrier Filters",
  • Click the
    sm-only-btn.gif
in select "[ ] American (AA)
    sm-only-btn.gif
    ".
  • close this by clicking the
    less.gif
    beside "Carrier Filters"
  • Click the check box beside "Caribbean" under "Destination Zones"
  • Click the PPM (Price per Mile) column
You should then see a list of AA fares from LAS to the USA and the Carribean sorted in ascending order of the cheapest USD/distance.

While the Qantas Zone system does not directly correlate with PPM, it does give a reasonable indication.

Thanks Serfty!!

As always your advice is gold!

I hadn't checked the destination filter.

Without going to the Caribbean, looks like LAX-DFW-TPA and the SEA run are still some of the better ones right now...
