At my first visit to HK 2 weeks ago, I managed to sneak a visit to the Cabin on 6th Oct before my 23:55 Cx flight to Syd.

Upon checkin in the morning at HK Airport Express train station, we were told Cabin loung only open to Marco polo members, and not open to public until 11 Oct.

After having a shower and some noodles at the Wing J lounge, my buddy and I took our chances and made our way over to Cabin at around 10:15pm. Reception was very friendly and welcome us in with no questions. I think it was due to the loung being practically empty, only saw 3 or 4 other guests, more staff than patrons .

Here are some photos, I liked the salad/cheese/deli bar, and lots of fresh juices along with alcohol at the drinks bar.

We also asked for ipads, you hand in your boarding pass to reception. Upon leaving lounge and returing ipad, I was advised, 'Sir we have a new boarding pass for you'. So on my first flight o CX, i was upgraded to J :D. I was over the moon, but almost missed boarding as had to rush from Cabin at gate 23 to gat 69.

Sounds like a great way to get upgraded.

Why wasn't that IPad advantage covered in the iPad thread .

I wonder how the stats run with WPs using CX lounges versus QF at HKG, its probably got better for QF with the new lounges by QF but I wonder what the breakdown is?

G16 is the Dragonair lounge.
Interesting that CX Lounge Invitations now show Wing/Pier/Cabin/G16. Was this always the case or is G16 a new addition to the lounge invitations?

In the Pier at the moment and as I have a couple of hours to spare before my next flight and my flight departs from gate 40 may head down to the Cabin to have a look around.

There is only so much water a person can drink so need to walk off some of this excess water.

It changed in Nov 07 when they became a OW affiliate AFAIK, having become a wholly owned sub in sep 06.

I can't think of any rational reason for one to use the G16 lounge if you have an alternative...

I hop you managed to grab an iPad and sit in those round seats and have a play ;)

It is a lengthy walk from the Pier to the Cabin. Only had enough time to look around.

As a lounge the Cabin is OK with good views of the apron and the mountains as a backdrop. If you want peace and quiet this is probably not the lounge for you unless you want to sit in those round seats and have people constantly walk by staring at you.

I also noticed 6 internet terminals but these appeared to be Apple and more than likely loaded with Safari. Not good if you hate using Apple products.

Not hard to download firefox (or chrome), simple web address, and even easier to keep a mac app of firefox on a USB for all the time you’ll be in a lounge with Apple products ;)

FWIW, all my browsing is on Safari and I never encounter a problem, so I’m not sure why others do. Other than not knowing how the little bits work in it, everything else is much more compatible in Webkit than whatever IE uses :p

Back in the Cabin after a slight detour to TPE. ;)

My fight to BKK has started boarding. Not looking forward to 46D after 36 hours without sleep.

I think if you hate using apple products then the fact that safari is installed on an iMac is not going to be your first source of concern...

Get used to them - there's a whole grove of apples in the new PER lounge.

Impossible to get used to them when only uses them a few minutes here and there. And that keyboard has to be the worst invention in the evolution of computer hardware.

I do not understand the push to install Apple products in Qantas Lounges everywhere.

In the cabin today as well as the pier. Very impressed with the cabin, good range of food and best outward perspective.

Cathay service up to usual standards
