Here I was thinking it was a MH specific thing. Didn't know it applied to all flights ex-KUL.

5 kg? My laptop and charger would use that allowance up! I would say this would be IMPOSSIBLE to police ex KLIA based on my experience there!!

I'm sure that blue thumbs up they've used in the poster has been taken from somewhere... that's right, the facebook like button.

Sorry, but stealing graphics and using symbols whose meanings aren't globally understood is bad communication.

I'll test this out tuesday - I'm taking a 104cm suitcase and laptop bag through! No other choice really (coming to the end of a couple of months abroad working - not much I can cull). I'm already planning on wearing my heaviest clothes and stuffing my pockets full :p

edit: considering the allowed hand luggage is clearly set out by each airline, can an airport really enforce this when it's contrary to the airline requirements?

Also it says nail clippers were allowed, which I always believed was not the case. In any case it's encouraging poor behaviour - clipping nails in public is not cool~!

Please let us know the result... I travel to / from KLIA pretty often, and would like to know the outcome. Thanks

My mum travels to KBR every year (via KUL, of course). She normally carries a handbag and a carry bag, the latter stuffed with whatever couldn't be shoved into the checked bag without paying excess fees.

She should probably be aware of this, if only to know how strict KLIA (and/or MH) actually will be enforcing this.

Will do. I'm flying into the main terminal, and out of the LCCT so will also see if it's across both terminals.

No sign at all of this being enforced at KLIA main terminal. No signage around or anything. My 7.1kg case and 5kg laptop bag weren't afforded a glance.

Good to know, and thanks for reporting back. Typical Malaysian thing...rules are made but almost never enforced.... (or ignored by the masses)

And again, no sign of it at KLIA LCCT. In fact, the only sign around regarding hand luggage was the usual AirAsia 7kg one.

Maybe this one is all hot air, or maybe it'll just take a while to enforce

Maybe it's like some (read: most) "laws"/"rules", in that it doesn't get regularly policed, but when it does and you get caught, it's a <insert preferred profanity here>.

Like you can't eat or drink anything while driving but everyone does it.

Maybe it's just my charms and goods that get me through  (don't have much of either!!)

Anybody had any recent experience travelling through KUL and whether the new limit is enforced?

I have and upcoming departure from KLIA main terminal.

Cheers

I went through KLIA once in January and once in April, both times I departed from KLIA with two bags as I had to carry three laptops. One of the bags would have probably been just over the 5kg limit. There was no sign of that policy being enforced.

I was traveling business class so would have been eligible for the 'exemption tag' , but was not given one. I did ask at check in if I would be alright with two bags and they said yes. There was carry on size/scales thing just before security but no one was being checked.

I get the feeling it is not being enforced. Or perhaps only very selectively.

Went through KLIA x2 in July; no sign of this policy enforced.

I've been through KLIA three times since July and saw no sign of it. However on another trip through KLIA LCCT on Air Asia they were being strict.
