Hey all,

Haven't been able to clearly find the answer to this one.

I may be relocating to YYZ and need to find a Canadian based CC that one can transfer reward points to QF??

Does anyone have experience on the Canadian front?

I'm assuming Amex can, but haven't been able to confirm..??

Last year Qantas changed most of their credit card partnerships to Direct Sweep operation. There are very few options remaining to transfer points into Qantas from other credit cards. Some Amex cards (the heavy-metal coloured variety) still retain that options, but that may not be the case for cards based outside Australia.

Read our AFF credit card guides and start earning more points now.

Hmmm, thanks NM.

I've always thought it's a shame u can't transfer from SPG to QF too.

You can indeed transfer your Amex internationally to many other countries, depending upon whether you meet the requirements of the new market (eg for HK you would need an HKID card to transfer).

Unfortunately QF is not a partner to Canadian Amex MR so I don't think this is going to help you much though. Transfer partners include Aeroplan, Asia Miles, Alitalia(?), BA, Continental, Delta, SPG, Hhonours or Priority Club.

Thanks Serfty and yohy.

Yeah I thought my options may be pretty limited. May require some serious thought in the absence of OW in Canada, and the absence of *A in Australia...

Yes, dfcatch, I faced the same dilemma a few years ago when I moved temporarily to Vancouver. I decided the only solution was to join Air Canada's program and accrue points there, and manage it carefully to bring the balance back down to near zero before my return to Australia.
It is very annoying that One World is so weak in Canada.

The trouble is that AA does not have a domestic network within Canada. Sure, it's fine for connections from most major Canadian cities back into the states, but presumably the OP would want to be able to get credit for domestic flights - and you just cannot do that within One World.
That is why I simply resigned myself to putting my One World account on hold while I was living there, and building up points with AC (Star Alliance), via flights and credit card. My stay there was for 3 years, so well before I returned back to One World territory I started taking reward flights to pull my AC balance back down to zero. I managed to do it almost perfectly.

Thanks for all the advice guys. I guess my aim was to maintain QF earn as much as possible as would still be using QF for transpacific. And would use AA in the States.

The question was more about continuing to leverage CC points earn whilst living in Canada.

I guess it's a question of directing CC earn to AA or AC....
