CNS Dom baggage no longer in a shed

Pleased to report that the CNS Domestic airport is finally complete with a real baggage collection area those that find long walks challenging will be pleased to know that its a much shorter route now from the baggage area to the car park & rental cars.

Well, I'll be able to put back on those much needed kilo's lost during the heated march from airbridge to North Cairns to retrieve luggage and back to rental cars.

It's on the opposite side of the main Departures area to the QF Desk. It's essentially where the old QP used to be. So you have security and the Departures area in the middle, Check-In to the North, and Baggage Claim to the South.

It was a nice surprise to see it open 2 weeks ago.

Clean, big, plenty of capacity and most importantly - no need to walk to North Cairns and back!!

But you can still work the kilos off walking to and from the QP to the gates

The Cairns airport renovations seem to have been going on for ever.

Blue Sky Brewery have a nice looking bar in departures.
Walked past it a few weeks back around 1230 in the arvo and it was busy.

But you can still work the kilos off walking to and from the QP to the gates

Or standing in the line waiting to pass through security at midday which takes about 30 minutes minimum. Some more staff to operate all of the x ray machines would be a good start. The new baggage collection hall is quite nice but well overdue.

Not only that, Cairns North is actually south of the airport. Probably mean walk to Stratford or Machans

Ok, checkin is on the left (south) as you look at the terminal, baggage on the right (north).

I took a DJ flight out of there to AKL the other week, and had forgotten just how bare and basic the terminal is.
