Hello,

I'm looking at booking a flight with AA from LAS to LAX, then picking up my work booked flight back to Aus.

My understanding of the information on the AA website is that as a Silver Qantas FF member which = Ruby oneworld status, I don't have to back the extra $ for baggage (i.e. the $25 for the first bag and the $35 for the second bag).

I'm a little tired, so I want to make sure I am reading this correctly.
Has anyone who is silver booked with AA recently and not had to pay for the baggage?

thanks

You'll also get PriorityAaccess if your Silver number is on the booking which makes getting through security in the US ever so much less stressful (assuming LAS has the priority lanes - I've never flown out of there as my one visit to Las Vegas involved hiring a car and driving to Los Angeles).

You will however get priority boarding which is essential if you plan on using the overhead bins :)

(by your question I assume you're travelling Y)

If you happen to use the self service checkins (you can do this using a number of options incl. FF card, passport, credit card that purchased the ticket, record locator - that's what I used) as I did on 2 or 3 occasions, a message should come up on the screen stating you are exempt from payment due to your status (assuming it is in the booking). So as previously advised ensure you have your silver/ruby card with you just in case.

LAS does have a "F" security queue (to the right hand side in the D terminal) but I'm not sure if that covers Priority AAccess (I've only flown out using F from LAS).

I have always wondered does OW emerald/saphire/ruby get 2 free bags or 1 on AA in economy? Lately I have been in first/business so have not been able to test the theory.

I believe Emerald/Sapphire/Ruby indeed get two bags up to 23Kg at no additional charge when travelling AA in economy.

American Airlines Checked Baggage Charge Exceptions | AA.com

Interesting to note the following point from the above link:

Customers flying on the same reservation as an American Airlines AAdvantage Executive Platinum, AAdvantage Platinum or AAdvantage Gold member or oneworld Alliance Emerald, Sapphire or Ruby member regardless of frequent flier status or fare type (not applicable to group bookings)

So if you had a family of four with one WP and three NB, all four of you would get an extra piece of luggage if on the same pnr whereas in Oz it's only the actual member who is PS or above who gets the extra allowance.
