THE Victorian cricket team and band the John Butler Trio were involved in a tense near-miss in Adelaide when the landing gear of their plane appeared to fail.

Cricket Victoria spokeswoman Jessica Cook said the entire squad of 17 - including Australian team members Cameron White and Peter Siddle - and sports staff were on the plane from Darwin to Adelaide last night.

Ms Cook, who was travelling with the team, said after circling the airport several times, the Qantas crew advised passengers a coughpit light indicated a problem with the landing gear, particularly the front wheel.

After a tense 45 minutes, passengers were advised to prepare for a crash landing and get into a brace position.

Does sound a little disconcerting.

The aircraft was a 767-338ER(VH-OG* reg), this particular one first flew in May 1996.

It is scheduled to position to MEL this afternoon as QF6112.

With the ZX issues last Friday and now this one cannot help but think the aircraft are really getting close to the point where they become unreliable, we have seen it before with the 743's, SPs and 762s.

The 767s are still excellent machines, and appreciably tougher than anything that might be used to replace them.

Markis could you please elaborate the issues with the ZX's last week. I was on one yesterday and it seemed fairly normal to me.

I know that ZXD was delayed by about 3hrs yesterday doing QF650

I am guessing if it the plane in question was either OGP/OGQ going by sefty's info.

ZXA/D & F seemed to have an issue with working Friday, silly me tried to comfort JohnK by trying to explain that one aircraft going US would not make much difference to the flights later in the day, subsequently putting the mocker on his aircraft which got stuck in DRW - ZXF.

"near miss" is a slight exaggeration of the event.

I'm guessing the team went DRW-SYD-ADL, with JBT being on the SYD-ADL flight with them, which karens would not have been on as she normally debunks in SYD.

Try reading the OP article, DRW-ADL, with the spotting occuring in DRW which does not have a J QP or CL for JBT to hide in (or more technically JB& his T) which is what Sam was alluding to.

Sorry yes. I meant JBT hiding in a lounge, but as I don't have J access and haven't visited NT, I didn't realise there was no J or CL. Or even QP?? Now I'm confused.

Sorry for my confusion, DRW has a QP but no J lounge or CL.
