This is the second time my flight from Brisbane to Melbourne has been delayed, this time by 4 hours? Are cheap Airlines worth it?...don't think so!

Hi Joseph356, Welcome to AFF

I've only had a few experiences with tiger and I'm happy to say that they have been good ones.

Tiger seem to heavily use their aircraft, so bearing that in mind if a plane goes out of action the cr*p really hits the fan and can cause knock on effects through the rest of the day (or the rest of the week depending on how long it takes to fix the plane:shock:)

If you aren't keen on flying Tiger but still want to pay Tiger prices, why not try doing a price match with Jetstar, see here: Jetstar's Price Beat Guarantee - Travel Services - Travel Information - Jetstar Airways

jetstar.com said:
If you find a published internet airfare on another airline that is lower than the lowest available comparable Jetstar fare on Jetstar.com, call us to book with Jetstar and we will beat the other airline's fare by 10% (provided we can verify the lower fare when you call to book). The comparable fare must be for a one way direct flight on the same route at a comparable time. Another airline's fare which has less than 20kg checked baggage allowance or excludes checked baggage allowance is comparable to Jetstar's JetSaver Light fare and a fare which includes at least 20kg checked baggage allowance is comparable to Jetstar's JetSaver fare.

Cheers,

Josh:p

Thanks, I might just do that next week. I guess it's not as bad as Alitalia's flight from Madrid to Rome - 1 day delay!

Might I just add that price beats with Jetstar must be booked at least 7 days in advance:mrgreen: Sorry:oops:

it's never an easy blanket yes/no ... like a lot of the debates on here, it really comes down to the whole picture ~

99.99% of the time a oneworld person - but i find the MEL/ROK flights on tiger ... for often a quarter ($50-60) what it would cost a oneworld SC bearing flight (ie, QF red e-deal or JQ flexi ... $220-500) ... TOTALLY worth it considering it's a 2.5 hour direct flight - that's not an option available on any other carrier, and it's probably one i'd probably be happy paying $$$ premium for if it were! (ok, hmm - maybe not! but i certainly doesn't make any sense for me to be paying $$$ for the other way round, esp when the savings are so substantial)

and also, when tiger seems to cop a bit of flack, it tends to be around on-the-ground issues (refund times, pax squabbles over luggage, etc), but, in the air, i find they're fantastic ... it's been about 2 years since i last flew with them (but will be flying again this summer), but the aircraft felt clean and new, and the cabin crew were excellent.

so ~ hmmm ... i must say - again as a OW person - the worse experiences i've had have been with high cost legacy carriers (KLM, JAL, QF! argh!!!!), but for every 'urgh' moment, there's a bundle of good ones - just seems we only seem to get fixated on the negative ones!

cheerz.

The T&C's state that any booking made under the Jet* PB guarantee must be outside of 72 hours only.

Granted, I've never actually tried to do a PB booking that late

Ah, you are correct

Forget I ever said anything

For a lot of people, the el-cheapo tickets that are made available can be the difference between travelling somewhere and not travelling. They certainly have their place, but they do have their limitations for a lot of other people.

I think it's more how the airline handles problems that people remember, rather than the problem itself.

Budget airlines seem to handle problems rather poorly compared to legacy carriers, then again I'm still ticked off with BA for leaving me stranded in Bangkok for a week even though they had 2 planes in BKK and 2 more in SYD that could have been used to ferry passengers back home, even if Europe was out of the question due to the Icelandic Volcano

With ULCC such as TT, really you are taking your chances of them delivering the service on time for you. So far I have had a good run with TT but this is never guaranteed.
