My mum is flying LHR to SYD on QF32 on the 27/08/10 which I know is the 747, now according to SeatGuru there is 2 versions of the 747 with the 4 class config, is there anyway of finding out which version is going to be operating this route at all?

Currently she is in 36K which if its the Version 1 is not a great seat as is doesnt get a window, however if its on v2 its exit row seat and so she gets more legroom. She isnt a QF FF, however is BA however lost status recently.

On the way back she is on QF31 which is the 388 and has 35k which seems to be a decent seat. I can see that row 34 and row 38 on the 388 are obviously very good.

Also any recommendation on the seat she should get if it turns out to be Version 1 would be well recieved.

38K is my favourite on the A380 - I've had that twice now. There's plenty of room and the storage bin for all your materials during the flight. It is a little bit cooler than other seats but I prefer that.

Note that when I've had 38K I've been SG and WP - sole traveller and sitting next to a WP in 38J so it might be difficult to get without status.

35K is ok, but I found that it gets uncomfortably warm during the flight (this may be fine for your mum if she prefers warmth - I'm the type that sleeps with my bedroom at 10'C during winter).

I couldn't comment on the 744 unfortunately. I've only ever flown in J and Y on them - but a quick look at the seat map on expertflyer indicates version 1.

If you look your booking up on www.checkmytrip.com and get a seat map; does it shows seats 35D/E/F/G as existing (allocated or not)?

If so then you have version 1 which is the "Kangaroo Route" version commonly used for routes between Europe and Australia.

Another way to tell is if PE consists of rows 34 to 38. (As the "Pacific Version" consists of rows 34 through 39.)

38K is my favourite on the A380

On the above, this is the leg room in 38K:

On my flights the crew seat opposite was only used during takeoff, landing and once or twice for a few minutes during turbulence.

:)

Have looked up and yes indeed she is on Version 1.

So might be worth looking for a different seat when checkin time comes, as some peoples upgrades may have cleared etc.

I have done the Kangaroo route a couple of times on 744 and must say that my preference goes to row 37. Eventhough the A and K don't have windows there is still nobody pulling your seat when they want to get up. I can see that 37A is still open. Can't comment on A380 as have only done J class on that one.

If she has no need to get out of her seat all the time and is not tall then I recommend 34A/K. If she needs to exit a lot I recommend an aisle seat. row 37 is good as they say no one grabbing the back of your seat to get out but I have found as long as you are not stuck in the middle of the 4 it is all good in Y+.
