New Mobile Check-In

I really have been trying to give this a go - but it seems more often than not I keep getting the 'This booking is not eligible for mobile check-in' error.

All I do is select my sets beforehand online - if this is what is making me unable to use mobile check-in, then quite frankly it's utterly useless.

Particularly annoying for day trips when I'd much rather not be carrying pieces of paper around or have to get to the airport early to stop off at the QP or check-in kiosk.

Had a 'Not Available' message on my recent SYD-BNE-SYD trip on the way up, so just printed boarding pass on OLCI at T-24. Had selected seats 3-days before but did try again at T-24 in case more opened up.

On the way back used mobile to check-in in cab on way to airport (first return flight in 20 where I have caught my booked return).
SMS 30 secs later.
At the gate it seems to scan better the further the mobile is from the reader - so put your hand low not high.

Be interesting to see whether using Select Seats again within the T-24 hr period voided the mobile checkin

I tried to use it again 2 weeks ago, and managed to avoid deleting the sms , got to the gate and passed the phone under the reader (noting the FA's hands were as far away as possible), got 2 green lights, but the ticket didn't print, so had to get a card BP from the desk :mad:

I used mobile checkin at DRW last week, it worked when I dropped my luggage off, it got me into the Club, I waited in the long queue and rejected me at the gate....had to get one printed at the gate, I guess some teething issues. It must have been known about as the agent that accepted my luggage asked whether I would like a BP printed just in case it didn't work......I refused relying on the technology:):)

Worked fine yesterday at BME airport using my iphone. Receipt was printed out at the gate to take onto the aircraft.

Did my first mobile check in just now. I haven't done it in the past because I'm usually sweeting on OLCI T-7 to get a better seat. But got into 4F using seat selection. :D Also Expert flyer (trial version) and dummy booking told me the flight was sold out yesterday.

I assume that I can check seat selection at T-7 to see if the aisle opens up?

Interesting thing is that I checked in exactly on T-24 and was Sequence 25.

Did you check seat allocation at T-80?

Yep, got to row 8 then from 11 (seems to be the standard for Gold at T>80) 4E at about T-72, 4F at about T-48.

After T-80 expert flyer was showing X in all the seats that were unavailable to me on Seat Select, except there were 2 seats in rows 8 to 10 that were X in expert flyer, vacant on Qantas. I thought that these must have been allocated to (but not taken by) another Gold. But thinking about it now that wouldn't work as a gold in front of row 11 would have had to actively select the seat, so I don't think I could bump them and I couldn't bump a platinum.

Has worked fine for me using my iPhone, although occasionally a little slow reacting. Maybe needs the phone tilted or wobbled slightly under the scanner. Good way to go, though.

Whenever I try a mobile check-in, my booking is always ineligible.

Now I'm looking forward to my new chip card.

I don't see how getting rid of an oversize piece of cardboard does that.

Its not oversize, its harder to misplace;), pretty useful in my case

What happens at airports without airbridges, at HBA I get scowled at if I take my phone out of my pocket when I am on the tarmac:?:

That's why you would get your phone (with 2D BP) scanned at the gate before you enter the tarmac. The scanner spits out a receipt (similar to a JQ or DJ cheap shop docket BP) and you show this to the FA whilst boarding.

Of course, this process still implies a slight change in the procedures, which is mobile phones etc. must be turned off before exiting the terminal and walking onto the tarmac. (Current 'procedure' says that upon the commencement of boarding, all electronic devices must be turned off).

Another successful pass issue.

SYD-BNE as WP on 737-800 so Row 4 key goal.
T-4d Best row 6
T-65 Moved into 5F, no further movements. Nothing in row 4 available. EF showed 5 seats blocked, 1 taken.
T-24 Used select seats not OLCI and got 4F (only seat available in Row 4)
T-24 Back onto Mobile, checked in - got error at last screen saying you are already checkin in and should get SMS. 60 secs later SMS arrived. Sequence no single digit.

Good to know I was able to go back into Select Seats at T-24 to get my preferred seat, then still use MOCI (a new acronym!)

A follow up on my use of the Mobile BP last night. I did the whole thing with the MOBP. The qantas club door person had to turn on the scanner to let me in. So we had a bit of a joke about the "new" technology.

At the gate the FA took my phone from me and scanned it, I thought that wasn't allowed. I didn't care that the FA took the phone anyway. But then I had to pull off the printed receipt.

I'm not sure about using it again. I wasn't prepare to do OLCI to try for an aisle seat, once I'd MOCI in case in cancel the MOBP. Ended up having a slightly uncomfortable flight due to the person in the E seat. They didn't do anything wrong, just that they were physically incompatible with a middle seat. (If you can work out what I'm not saying, well done).

Think we can work it out!
So MOCI allocated you a window seat despite (assuming a preference for aisle?) preferences. Also assume you had not previously used Select Seats

Sorry for the incomplete information. I seat selected into 4E the saw that qantas had stopped selling seats on the flight about 3 days before so I moved in to the window seat because I'd rather be there on a dull flight then the middle.

Yes, my seating preference is aisle but I make an exception for row 4 of a 737-800. ;)

I tried to get a mobile boarding pass thing for tonights flight but experienced utter failure on the QF mobile check in site.

Hopefully I have more success on Sundays flight :)

Tried on 2 trips this past week (4 sectors) MEL-CBR-MEL and MOCI did not work (told me my itinerary wasn't eligible). I emailed QF and they replied saying they would look into it.

I am using my AA FF# (not sure whether that matters) and Android with Skyfire browser.

Today tried to check in for tonight's flight - and didn't get the error message but got a blank screen with no scan/bar code. When I tried to repeat got the message that i was already checked in. So had to go online using my computer to print a BP. - can't be that hard QF can it? Did you test it before releasing it?
