Hi Guys,

We are traveling with QF from Au to US next week and our family of 6 are going.

From Au to the Americas we get an allowance of 2 x bags for check-in each of 23kg max.

Now, the question...separately we are booked on AA flights across from LAX to ORD then returning to LAX. Do we keep our same baggage allowances of 2 x per person?

Last thing I want is excess baggage charges on multiple bags!

As a WP you would have been fine as long as all bookings had been on the same PNR as yours.

Of course, since you are all on international itineraries,it's all cool anyway.

American Airlines Checked Baggage Charge Exceptions

You may still be OK, as long as you all check your luggage together - but that's at the agents' discretion.

Thanks serfty, you have saved the day. I shall print this and take it with me.

I just called QF FF Service Centre and then called Reservations and they didn't know the answer. In fact reservations told me I would be up for $25 per bag.

I called AA (in BNE I think) and the lady there said that as long as I hold an international ticket then all will be fine, they match the QF allowances.

Phew! Didn't wanna be hit with baggage charges.

Thanks again...

Seems that AA is much more generous than many OW airlines... given that extra baggage allowance is apparently NOT an Alliance wide benefit!! (Came as a shock to me... as a *A elite...)

Good on them!

To be fair, the AA additional allowance is giving any allowance at all since their normal allowance is zero for domestic travel
