I'm thinking of booking a flight over Christmas from JFK-SYD on the A330-200 which I understand stops over in Auckland. What's the aircraft like for a long haul? I'll be travelling in Y but being WP hope to get a good seat selection.

It'll be the A330 JFK-LAX and then either 744 or 380 LAX-SYD (I believe it's still on 744 at the moment). So you wont have to travel via AKL.

Y and J in the 330 are essentially the same as the 744. Others will chime in with nuances such as best seats etc.

Thanks - I'll check out Seat Guru but I'm more curious as to why QF108 on Dec 29 shows as an Airbus Industrie A380-800 (from New York) and in another booking it shows as a 747-400 (from Los Angeles). It depends whether I do a flight MEL-JFK return or MEL-LAX return!

From this month QF107/QF108 LAX to/from JFK and QF25/QF26 AKL to/from LAX are being operated by 332's rather the 744.

QF107/QF108 SYD to/from LAX are being operated by 744.

First class is disappearing from QF107/QF108 between LAX and JFK.

dede, what is your entire routing?

I'm looking at either MEL-JFK return or even just booking MEL-LAX with QF amd making a separate booking with AA from LAX-EWR because the airport is so much easier to get to/from.

There are lots of options and I don't even have a definite date although Dec 1 and 29 look pretty good for departure/return dates and the fares are VERY attractive at the moment (until 9th July I think), around $1700 return, even cheaper with points plus pay.
