Airport Link in service from Aug 23

The Airport Link train connecting Bangkok and Suvarnabhumi airport will go in operation for commercial service from Aug 23, Transport Minister Sohpon Zarum said on Tuesday.
Mr Sohpon said the date was settled after a consultation with the State Railway of Thailand.
The Airport Link will offer two types of service on parallel rails - the City Line which stops at every station to transport passengers from Phaya Thai to Suvarnabhumi airport and the non-stop Airport Express which runs from Makkasan to the airport.
The fare for the City Line starts from 15 baht and the Airport Express 100 baht per trip.
Check-in service is expected to begin in October, Mr Sohpon said.

It's been deferred many more times than that. The original plan was 2006!!!! only 4 yrs late. better late than never i guess

Yes pretty much!!

there has been so many projected opening dates that have been and gone, it's quite ridiculous. this seems to be a fairly firm opening date this time, since the track has already been operating at certain times on public test runs.

Ill still use a cab though, it's just so cheap and more convenient to be dropped off door to door.

It has been said before but would you pay 100/150 baht for the express service when a cab fare to the CBD is only 250-350 baht? The cab gets you door to door, while the rail service drops you somewhere near town, and with Bangkok weather and the crazy hours that many flights transit the airport I do not see myself dragging my suitcases after a 10hr flight in 30c+ weather to literally save a few dollars...

PS. The above aside...this is fantastic for Bangkok - really makes Melbourne's airport effort look pretty lame (how long can you milk a 40yr old airport for?)

Used the train 06/06/10. It is free until August but express to Payathai only. It's really fast 16 minutes ! Had to catch the lift down at Payathai and then the escalator up to Payathai station but there is an air bridge being built.I was going to Phom Prong , Sukumvit no need to change trains at Siam. 60 Baht for 2 from the airport. I think when the train is fully operational it will be a good deal for single travellers with light luggage.Two or more people would maybe be better off in a taxi depending on the time of day. BKK traffic jams,taxi drivers who don't know BKK & airport limousine ripoff merchants are all avoided using this service. Great views from the train too.
